About the Opportunity

Project controls and planning are an integral part of the company, providing direct support to Project Managers and multi-disciplinary engineering and consultancy teams across a range of engineering and scientific research programmes. Owing to expansion within our Waste Management and Decommissioning group, particularly in Harwell, we are looking to grow our local Project Controls group.

This opportunity is a hybrid Junior Cost Control and Project Support position, previous experience in either position will be valued but is not a requirement for application.

Key Responsibilities:

Project/Cost Controls:

  • Cost Analysis: Under direction of the Senior Cost Controller conduct analyses of project costs, identifying variances and providing insights to support strategic decision-making.

  • Budget Oversight: Support Project Managers to develop and manage project budgets, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.

  • Forecasting: Under the direction of the Project Manager and Senior Cost Controller, utilize financial data to create accurate and timely forecasts, enabling proactive measures to address potential budgetary issues.

  • Reporting: Generate reports on project financial performance, highlighting key cost drivers and areas for improvement.

  • Continuous Improvement: Implement cost control best practices and contribute to the enhancement of financial processes.

Project Support:

  • Planning and Scheduling: Under direction of the Project Manager develop project plans, including timelines, milestones, and resource allocation, to meet project objectives.

  • Coordination: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather project requirements and ensure alignment with organizational goals.

  • Monitoring and Reporting: Regularly monitor project progress, analyze deviations from plans, and provide timely reports to stakeholders.

  • Continuous Improvement: Implement and enhance project planning processes to optimize efficiency and effectiveness.

Here’s what you’ll need :

  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Competence in Excel including data analysis and editing.

  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities.

  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.

  • All required training will be provided in the role but a confident understanding of the MS Suite in particular Microsoft Excel and basic accounting principals will be beneficial.

  • Previous experience with Microsoft Project or similar scheduling tools is beneficial.

  • Previous experience with integrated project controls systems or Oracle Finance systems is beneficial.
