JOB PURPOSE

Staff Scientists will conduct product development programs for gasoline engine emissions control systems. They will deliver improved products, formulas, materials, processes and systems to global automotive customers.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Conduct product development programs to develop new products for the control of emissions from gasoline engines.

  • Design, sponsor and/or conduct experiments to develop new catalysts, materials or exhaust emission control systems and ensure experiments are designed and conducted in a resource-effective manner.

  • Maintain knowledge in field of expertise through regular patent and literature reviews and attendance of appropriate conferences.

  • Build strong working relationships with the other Technology Centers, stakeholders throughout the business, and external organizations as needed.

  • Support Idea and Evaluate Phase New Product Development teams.

  • Support a strong safety culture.

  • Ensure that processes, procedures, and documentation being used to conduct daily activities are following the requirements of the Quality Management Systems (ISO/IATF16949) and Environmental Management Systems (ISO14001) prescribed to by the site.

  • Monitor and maintain laboratory equipment.

  • To take on any other duties which are within the employee’s skills and abilities whenever reasonably instructed.

SCOPE

  • Interactions with managers, scientists, and chemists globally throughout the business.

  • Lead product development programs.

  • Impact on the next generation of products that will be implemented to customer programs globally.

  • Planning and organization of development projects that will be completed in up to two years.

Requirements for the role:

  • PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related Science; or a Bachelor’s degree and minimum of 2 years of related experience

  • Strong heterogeneous catalysis background

  • Hands on experience on catalyst preparation, gas/solid phase catalytic reaction testing, and characterization

  • Strong knowledge of material science, inorganic compounds
