Early Childhood Music Instructor

Position Summary

Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement developmentally appropriate music classes forchildren ages birth through seven that correspond with the curriculumand instructional approaches of the Early Childhood Music Program.
  • Interact with parents regarding the music development of theirchildren through parent orientation sessions, informal discussions,and parent/teacher conferences.
  • Complete progress reports each semester on the musical developmentof each child.
  • Provide families with a recording of the repertoire for eachsemester as performed by the teacher so that families can support theweekly class instruction with interaction at home.

Administrative:

  • Communicate in a timely fashion with the Director of the EarlyChildhood Music Program to enable the scheduling of teachers eachsemester.
  • Fill out time sheets in timely and accurate manner.
  • Arrange for substitutes when needed according to the CommunityMusic School Early Childhood Music Program policy.

Recruitment/Outreach:

  • Participate when needed in sample demonstration classes at CMSOpen Houses and other venues in the community.

Collaborative Participation :

  • Attend CMS and Early Childhood Music faculty meetings.
  • Attend required early childhood music workshops when offered.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience assisting in or teaching early childhood classes thatare based on Gordon's Music Learning Theory.

Certifications:

  • GIML Early Childhood Certification Level 1.
