McLaren Health Care Surgical Boarding Specialist Coordinator - McLaren Careers in Detroit, Michigan

Job Summary:

Under general supervision of the Registered Nurse and/or manager, will be responsible for the completion of the Surgical Boarding Process, not limited to, and including the following:

assures completion of the Surgical Boarding Sheet, verification of patient demographics to ensure that the financial viability of KCC is secured at the most basic level, obtains authorization and referrals for surgical procedures and or ancillary tests, and provides clerical support services as needed

.

Responsibilities:

  • Works closely with members of the multidisciplinary team.Must cultivate a good rapport with physicians and staff to promote good working relations.

  • Utilizes knowledge of medical terminology to transcribe and prepare the OR Surgical Boarding form, patient medical information, medical reports and other materials as needed.

  • Assures completion of the OR Surgical Boarding form and faxes to the HUH Boarding Room.Contacts HUH OR to confirm boarding sheet has been received, andconfirmation of date and time of procedure.

  • Contacts patients and confirms the OR/Surgery/Procedure Date and Time, patient demographics, and or addresses patient questions/concerns/comments. Accesses physician’s Outlook Calendar, inserts OR/Procedure, and marks Outlook Calendar as confirmed with date/initials.Refers to the Registered Nurse as needed.

  • Provides patients with OR/Surgery/Procedure instructions/directions as provided by/directed by the Registered Nurse.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma orequivalent.Additional college orvocational school coursework preferred.

  • Generalknowledge of medical terminology.

  • Detailoriented.Goodtelephone etiquette.

  • Excellentverbal and writing skills.

  • Atleast 1 year experience in healthcare setting.

  • Experiencewith insurance authorization process preferred.
