The successful candidate for Safety Engineer will join a growing team of Health, Safety & Engineering professionals helping our customers reduce their work-related risk to quality, productivity and employee health.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead Up-Front design reviews with suppliers and ensure all initial designs of equipment, tooling, robotics, conveyors, meet all relevant safety standards

  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert in the field of Safety Engineering, particularly in evaluating design of new products, equipment and facilities.

  • Conduct Risk Assessments on various machinery and tooling

  • Define program in approach, timing, and deliverable with program team

  • Conduct, facilitate or advise as necessary in Machinery and Equipment Design Reviews and/or buy-offs

  • Effectively communicate new initiatives, standards, regulations, significant incidents and management directives to internal and external stakeholders

  • Provide specific health and safety training on various safety topics, as required

  • Technical consultant and advisor in technical and non-technical safety topics, including local and national safety regulations

  • Coordinate implementation and continuous improvement in safety programs

  • Must present the knowledge, confidence and ability to take immediate and appropriate action when an "imminent risk of serious injury" has been identified

  • Work in cooperation with union Health and Safety Representatives to achieve objectives

  • Provide technical support during risk assessment, construction, and/or installation of equipment as required

  • Report program status weekly to management roles

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety, a related discipline or CSP certification

  • Must be able to work in various locations within assigned region

  • Environment- Typical office and or manufacturer plant floor facilities

  • Be flexible to work outside of typical office hours to support client projects as needed

  • Ability to work independently with no or limited supervision

  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office applications

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; organizational skills

  • One to three years’ experience manufacturing experience with understanding of environmental and safety processes and hands-on experience in environmental and safety compliance activities

Physical/ Environmental Demands

  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs., climb ladders and transition through plant floors when at manufacturing plants on regular basis

  • Must be able to wear mandatory PPE in plant environments (hard hat, safety eyewear, hearing protection, safety shoes and safety clothes, etc. when required)

  • Subject to atmospheric conditions, including, but not limited to, exposure to dust, chemicals, and odors.
