POSITION SUMMARY:

Manages and maintains the Starfish Early Childhood Education Center program in accordance with the agency's mission, program goals and state and federal guidelines. The Center Leader will oversee the day-to-day operations of the center and ensure that all components of the program are running effectively and providing the highest quality program for children and families. The Center Leader will demonstrate a commitment to early childhood education best practices, an understanding of Head Start Performance Standards and Great Start Readiness Program Requirements, curriculum requirements and the ability to lead innovation.

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development required.

  • A Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development required preferred.

  • Three to five years of experience Supervising and managing staff.

  • Experience partnering with parents to support young children’s development.

  • Experience managing or running an early childhood education center, or after school program, or managing an early childhood program.

     

    DUTIES AND RESPONBILITES:

  • Ensures compliance with all state and federal guidelines, including Michigan childcare licensing, and food program, and SFS policies and procedures.

  • Manages and maintains the daily operations of programming at the center.

  • Directs the program development within the site and implements changes as necessary.

  • Monitors all required reports for accuracy and timely submission.

  • Ensures the submission ofrequired reports internally and externally within mandated time frames.

  • Assesses staff needs, coordinates and/or provides training, technical assistance and evaluation.

  • Supervises, attends, monitors and conducts ongoing meetings and training for center staff; develops a system to communicate with teaching staff that cannot attend staff meetings.

  • Creates and maintains a safe, healthy and developmentally focused learning environment.

  • Works with staff to ensure parental input in daily program planning.

  • Tracks parent volunteer activities and in-kind hours.

  • Maintains regular contact with families, including responding and following-up on parent complaints.

  • Ensures compliance with Head Start Performance Standards, day-care licensing rules, and SFS policies and procedures.

  • Assures the implementation of the curriculum in the classrooms and administer the Preschool Quality Assessment (PQA).

  • Provide instructional support and mentor-coaching to assigned teaching staff.

  • Implements all policies and procedures governing the operation of the program.

  • Directs, monitors and evaluates the program development within the site and implements changes as necessary.

  • Monitors and reviews children's weekly attendance report and addresses deficiencies resulting in less than 85% attendance.

  • Monitors and complies with federal, state and local regulations relating to Child Day Care licensing and Food Service programs.

  • Ensures the submission of required reports to all Grantee Specialists within mandated time frames.

  • Interviews, supervises, trains, disciplines, evaluates and recommends for separation staff in assigned center.

  • Assesses staff needs, coordinates and/or provides training, technical assistance and evaluation.

  • Maintains and/or monitors the planning and record keeping process, (i.e. home visits, parent teacher conference, developmental screenings and assessments).

     

    LICENSING AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid driver’s license and / or reliable transportation.
