We are seeking a Director for Rail/Auto with a strong skillset in business analytics and financial planning and analysis, the role of Director, Rail FP&A.

The Director, Rail FP&A will report directly to the Group Vice President (GVP) of Operations and will focus on serving as a strategic consultant to the GVP. The incumbent for this role will need to build credibility and trust throughout the company to be seen as a trusted advisor. This role will provide leadership over business analytics for Rail and Auto and will be responsible for suggesting and implementing strategic initiatives to improve performance.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors terminal expenses and data including labor costs, production, operational anomalies, and key performance indicators (KPIs).

  • Serves as a technical expert in this data utilizing Microsoft Excel, Power BI, etc. and reports out regularly to key stakeholders on these metrics.

  • Partners with terminal leadership to thoroughly understand the business; operates as a financial and analytics partner and subject matter expert.

  • Monitors data trends and proposes business solutions with the goal of improving overall financial performance, serves as a trusted advisor to terminal leadership in the execution of performance improvement initiatives.

  • Understands terminal contracts and assists in the preparation, review, and administration of contractual proposals.

  • Supports operations teams by monitoring real-time telematics data to identify operational and safety related opportunities.

  • Drives a range of high-profile and high-impact projects to guide the overall corporate strategy, including review of new market and services opportunities, competitive analysis, and internal optimization areas.

  • Owns strategic initiatives end-to-end through the development of work plans, gathering and analyzing relevant data, the development of actionable recommendations, and compelling communication to relevant stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in intermodal, transportation, logistics, warehousing, operations or similar field is required.

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, logistics, engineering, or another industry-related field required, or a combination of equivalent education and experience.

  • Proven track record of success managing FP&A and data analytics in multisite and multi-state union and non-union sites required.

  • Lives in or near the greater Detroit, Michigan area or has the ability to travel there for one week per month.

  • Has strong analytical thought processes and strong business acumen, has the ability to present complex material in easy to digest ways to all levels of operations.

  • Extensive knowledge of the principles, procedures, and best practices in the successful management of location specific KPIs and financial performance turnarounds.

  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills.

  • Expert in Microsoft Excel/ Web Based Data systems, expert in PowerBI or interest in becoming a PowerBI expert.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
