Job Description

PEOPLE is looking for a programming editor who will be responsible for the brand's newsletters, homepage and notification program on the weekends. On weekends, the programming editor will be responsible for creating, writing and deploying our weekend newsletters as well as sending out alerts via our growing platforms like browser notifications and Apple News. The programming editor will also be responsible for curating and editing the people.com homepage, one of the most popular destinations for entertainment news in the U.S. During the weekdays when the editor is working, they will be responsible for sending out newsletters and notifications as well as updating the homepage after the East Coast-based team has signed off. The programming editor will be responsible for digging into both real-time and historical analytics to create informed programming plans and track performance. This is a remote position that is best suited for someone working West Coast hours. Typically, the weekend teams work Thursday through Monday but adjustments can be made on weekdays based on the applicant's preferences.

This role will be crucial in helping PEOPLE expand their rapidly growing newsletter and notifications programs. The ideal candidate will have a strong news sense and a good sense of urgency around breaking news.

Resurfacing relevant content on Apple News and pitching relevant content to platform partners

Working with editorial team on timing of content for promotion and providing insights into newsletter, homepage and notification performance.

Using real-time and historical analytics to inform programming decisions. Creating traffic reports for wider team.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor's degree or relevant experience

Experience:

3 years with at least 1 year working for a news organization

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Excellent writing and editing skills, particularly in the news space. Deep knowledge of pop culture. Google Suite (Gmail, Google Docs, Google Sheets). Familiarity with using analytics tools (ex: Google Analytics, Chartbeat, Parsley, etc.). Excellent organization and communication skills. Familiarity with digital CMS, social media publishing platforms or email service providers (ex: Iterable, CheetahMail, etc.). Ability to work quickly and efficiently in a rapid, quick news environment.

Pay Range

Salary: $57,142 - $80,000

The pay range above represents the anticipated low and high end of the pay range for this position and may change in the future. Actual pay may vary and may be above or below the range base on various factors including but not limited to work location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Dotdash Meredith's total compensation package for employees. Other compensation may include annual bonuses, and short- and long-term incentives.
