Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Company LOSS CONTROL ASSOCIATE in Des Moines, Iowa

Conducts virtual resurveys and provides support to internal and external customers for property appraisals and various safety technical issues. Provides support to the department and its leadership as directed.

This position can be performed in our Grinnell office; or in a remote, home office based in one of the following states: Alabama, Arizona, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Florida, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Carolina, North Dakota, South Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. Please note that candidates must be eligible to work in the U.S. without Grinnell Mutual sponsorship.

  • Organizes, schedules and conducts virtual surveys of current policyholder’s operations to evaluate potential risk exposures and hazards.

  • Documents and maintains information related to the work of the assigned division including background information, training material, manuals, correspondence, cost, processes, and queries. Creates and maintains various data bases, lists, and tables for reference and maintenance.

  • Assists internal and external customers with property appraisals.

  • Provides customer service to internal and external customers by answering questions via phone, email, in person, and messaging or directing them to the appropriate resource.

  • Researches topics specific to assigned department to assist in work of the department. Information may be compiled to central location for other’s use.

  • Analyzes and evaluates data collected during virtual surveys and compiles data into a loss control report making recommendations on findings. Submits required forms for file documentation.

  • Provides training for or assists in training for staff or at agent academies

  • Completes projects and assignments as assigned

  • All other duties as assigned

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A) From a four-year accredited college or university; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • Ability to use personal judgement, experience, facts and figures to make decisions and resolve problems

  • Ability to interview policyholders in person and/or telephone. Demonstrate effective writing skills to develop quality loss control reports derived from information obtained through interviews of policyholders, virtual surveys of risk operations and to communicate information in a written report to underwriting functions.

  • Ability to provide an elevated level of customer service, including delivering timely responses to reinsurance and/or commercial underwriting requests for loss control surveys and appraisals.

  • Ability to demonstrate strong interpersonal, communication, active listening, and customer service skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects as required by business need.

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to pull from appropriate resources to move the solution forward, asks clarifying questions, and applies the information appropriately.
