Description of Job:

This class describes a technician in the information technology series responsible for managing and maintaining our organization's storage infrastructure. The person assigned to this role will be responsible for overseeing storage administration, provisioning, troubleshooting, and ensuring the availability, performance, and security of our storage system for all 23 OSPD offices statewide. They will also work with the hardware related to the storage system along with backup and DR systems. The individual assigned to this position reports directly to the IT Manager in our centralized IT division in Denver. This position completes day-to-day duties and tasks under limited supervision, they must also be able to work independently with limited guidance to complete major tasks.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Typical duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for the ongoing maintenance, security, and availability of our storage environment; providing on-site hardware maintenance/installation for the storage environment; and monitoring and managing storage system alerts.

  • Plans, implements, and maintains complex provisioning, advanced maintenance, data replication, disaster recovery, data migration, and documentation for our storage and backup environments.

  • Performs change management processes such as managing ACL rules and provisioning new shares.

  • Responds to and resolves incident tickets related to the storage environment.

  • Thoroughly understands and documents the application and server architecture, system configuration across platforms, and how the storage system interfaces with various other systems.

  • Uses knowledge to effectively and efficiently resolve issues that arise.

  • Plans, implements, and maintains complex provisioning, advanced maintenance, data replication, disaster recovery, data migration, and documentation for our Storage and Backup environments.

  • Actively participates in the IT department’s planning and implementation of projects for the agency.

  • Performs other related duties, as assigned.

  • Attends meetings and trainings as required.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field

  • 4 years or more of experience working in storage and backup administration

  • Equivalent education, training, or experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and competencies required to perform at this level may substitute for education or experience

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in enterprise data center environments.

  • Experience with Dell server architecture

  • Experience working with Cisco and Cisco Meraki switches, access points, and routers or other equivalent products

  • Advanced knowledge of VMware products and best practices

  • Experience in managing and monitoring Wasabi or AWS S3 object storage buckets

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Must be able to work independently and prioritize issues accordingly, with strong analytical and practical problem-solving skills

  • Strong understanding of on-prem, cloud, and hybrid storage environments

  • Experience with VMware or other hypervisors and Windows server environments; storage configuration, DFS, NFS, SMB, and CIFS; deploying storage-related policies over GPOs or Intune; and installing, configuring, supporting, and maintaining enterprise backup solutions

  • Extensive knowledge and experience with both cloud and on-prem storage systems; cloud-based object storage like S3, GCP, or Azure Blobs; and supporting backup and DR systems and devices

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Physical demands are in excess of those of sedentary work. Light work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree. Ability to sit for extended periods of time.

  • Talking, hearing, seeing; reaching with hands and arms; using hands and fingers

  • Using electronic devices such as computers

  • Vision to include near acuity, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
