Burns & McDonnell Staff Electrical Engineer (Denver) in Denver, Colorado

Description

Responsible for leading or executing power system protection and control engineering projects. Projects range in size, complexity, and voltage class from small distribution equipment upgrades to large transmission projects. Executes complex assignments requiring the use of advanced electrical engineering techniques, resulting in the development of new or improved processes, equipment, and/or technological methods. Responsible for performing power system studies, system protection settings coordination, or protection recommendations on various projects (up to 500-kV voltage level). Develop design basis documentation for protective settings and generate native relay configuration files. Support quality control and act as an available contact for both internal and external client-side communication. Telecommuting is allowed up to 30 days per year. Primarily domestic travel up to 10% for internal meetings, client and project site visits.

Qualifications

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, or a directly related field from an ABET accredited program plus three (3) years of electrical systems experience in either the electric utility industry or power distribution industry. Alternatively, the employer will also accept a Master’s degree in in Electrical Engineering, or a directly related field from an ABET accredited program plus two (2) years of electrical systems experience in either the electric utility industry or power distribution industry in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree plus three (3) years of described experience.

Must have two (2) years of experience in each of the following:

  • Application of industry standards utilizing basic protection principles and practices for the protection of transmission lines, distribution feeders, and system equipment, including power busses, power transformers, HV/MV circuit breakers, capacitor banks, reactors, transmission lines, and distribution feeders.

  • ASPEN OneLiner or Electrocon CAPE for Power systems modeling and protective relay coordination analysis.

  • Designing calculations, including short circuit calculation, current transformer performance and ratio selection, overcurrent element coordination, zone-distance element selection and coordination, and relay loadability calculation.

  • SEL’s AcSELerator or GE’s Enervista software programs to develop native relay setting files using microprocessor-based protection and control systems.

Telecommuting is allowed up to 30 days per year. Primarily domestic travel up to 10% for internal

meetings, client and project site visits.

$93,787- $180,000

The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in compliance with all local/state regulations. The expected compensation range for this position is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, prior work experience and work location. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and eligibility to participate in our discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.
