The Maintenance Shop Laborer plays an important role supporting the members of the Maintenance Team in ensuring the shop, yard, and grounds are clean and ready for operation each day. The Shop Laborer further supports the Mechanics with repairs on heavy equipment and ensures that the work area and tools are clean and safe, providing an efficient work area. Exceptional individuals in this role can also learn some maintenance and repair work, enabling them to move toward Mechanic roles in the company over time.

TOTAL COMPENSATION

$18.94 to $25.10 per hour

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain maintenance shop, fuel farm and property grounds in a clean and neat condition free of debris, trash, oil and lubricants.

  • Perform snow removal operations as needed.

  • Assist mechanics with repairs as needed.

  • Familiarize self with the uses of pneumatic, hydraulic, and electric tools.

  • Operate forklift in a safe manner.

  • Wash company vehicles and equipment as instructed by foreman.

  • Assist mechanics with small duties such as installation or disassembly of parts and equipment as needed.

  • Check primary email on a regular basis for any communication from the company, as this is the company’s primary mode of communication.

  • Perform other duties as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Desire and drive to learn and expand knowledge and skillset on maintenance responsibilities.

  • Extremely eager and willing to successfully complete all assigned tasks.

  • Highly dependable, reliable, honest, organized and coachable.

  • Significant ability to follow instructions, prioritize effectively, work independently, manage time, multitask, and handle stress.

  • Able to comply with all safety rules and policies.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with coworkers and others as needed.

  • Able to use hands to hold, grasp, push and pull.

  • Willingness and ability to adapt to scheduling needs, primarily day shift hours (usually between 5:00 AM and 4:00 PM), overtime, weekends, and/or holidays as required to accommodate company and project needs.

  • Ability to pass pre- and post-employment drug screening and work history verification.

  • Consistent access to a reliable personal email account.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Preferred:

  • Experience in similar line of work with some technical training in maintenance.

  • HS Diploma or GED with 1 year experience performing similar duties.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

This position requires the ability to communicate in English with co-workers, customers and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

This job requires the ability to do and understand basic math.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Able to perform work on uneven surfaces, climb equipment or ladders, push-pull and lift items 30 to 50 pounds. Able to use hands to hold, grasp, push and pull. Able to work outside exposed to weather conditions and in-shop atmosphere with loud noises and fumes; work on/around heavy/moving machinery; bend, walk, stand, sit for extended time; use hand tools.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Primarily indoor work in a maintenance shop. Regularly exposed to hazards such as noise, fumes, moving equipment, liquids and lubricants.
