SCOPE OF POSITION:

Support Platform planning and production by creating the manufacturing bill of material structure, detailed bill of materials, and routing details from the engineering model and/or drawings. Must be able to interpret and translate architectural drawings and 3D models. Must have a thorough understanding of a fabrication business and its associated work centers and CNC equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to successfully perform each essential duty as listed below.   • From the engineering 3D model and component details; create the manufacturing build structure, detailed bill of materials, and routings assigned to the appropriate work center for producing the products in the production facility.

  • Clearly define the level of build to manufacture

  • Identify the materials associated with the level

  • Specify the correct raw materials and raw material buy quantities

  • Define the work centers and routings for cutting the detailed components

  • Define the work centers and routings for weldments and fabrications

  • Assist and work with the engineering, detailing, customer service, or planning departments to ensure accurate information is provided to procurement and subsequently the shop for metal cutting, forming, welding, and fabrication.

  • Contribute to the development of manufacturing procedures and processes to integrate our automated equipment into the overall job flow for projects.

  • Work with Purchasing to locate and interface with outside vendors of raw materials, tooling, and/or processes as required in support of project requirements.

  • Assist in analyzing and interpreting data submitted for new products and components as well as modifications affecting standard products to fit equipment capabilities and streamline processes.

  • Participates in the production trials and testing of pilot models and components.

  • Provides technical information on matters dealing with equipment capabilities as it relates to special material, custom specs specifications, available tooling, and sub-contracting and services.

  • Confers with Manufacturing to provide assistance in standardizing production operations, tooling requirements, feasibility of manufacture or sub-contracting, labor and material cost estimates, etc.

  • Provides information and assists with resolving production problems in the manufacturing areas.

  • Keeps abreast of new developments, materials or processes to implement into the organization and products.

  • Studies and recommends techniques to improve existing production processes as it relates to automated equipment.

  • Travel as necessary to participate in product training and product consultation for CNC tools, etc.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

  • Ensures conformance to all aspects of the ISO 9001/14001 standard and Construction Specialties’ Environmental Management System (EMS), including its environmental policy while performing job functions that may have a significant impact on the environment.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE/ SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE/ EDUCATION: (Minimum Education and/or Experience required)

  • Associates (Bachelors preferred) degree in Mechanical or Architectural Drafting, Engineering Technology, Engineering or related field and a minimum of two years’ experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Fabrication or sheet metal business experience with a thorough understand welding, fabricating, CNC cutting/punching tools, CNC forming work centers.

  • Experience in the operation, maintenance, tooling, and troubleshooting of CNC equipment.

  • LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret data on product design and manufacturing methodology, detailed sketches, designs, specifications and or notes, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, building codes, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from other departments, managers, customers, sales reps, architects and contractors.

  • MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to understand standardized cost modeling including betterment, scrap, labor, accessing lost time, indirect costs, precautions when using labor minutes, understanding minimum gross margins to be applied, using average yields as check factors, calculating commissions, minimum mark-up factors, etc.

  • REASONING ABILITY:

  • Ability to define and solve practical problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of technical data furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form, and deal with several abstract, conceptual variables.

  • OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITITES:

  • Self-motivated.

  • Proficient in AutoCAD, MS Office Word/Excel, and PowerPoint software packages.

  • Innovative/creative attributes. Developed communication skills - both verbal and written.

  • Must be able to work successfully in team efforts - experience in cross functional team leadership and/or participation.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with a diverse range of people, including the proper handling of emotional situations and effective business relations. Effective use of time and resources to accomplish product development objectives. Knowledge of construction and fabrication methods. Able to read architectural drawings.
