Essential Job Duties

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Operate backhoe, loader, forklifts, bobcat, roller, dump truck, Vac-con truck and tack machine and other construction equipment as assigned.
  • Repair water and sewer leaks or perform asphalt and concrete removal, grading, loading trucks with road material and various tasks involving heavy equipment, depending on assigned department.
  • Assist in repairing asphalt, concrete, storm pipes and other repairs as assigned.
  • Perform assigned manual labor activities.
  • Assist Crew Leader in setting up laser and/or conventional alignment grading devices
  • Assist with other assigned tasks.

Skilled and manual work operating a backhoe, loader, forklifts, bobcat, roller, dump truck, Vac-con truck and tack machine, depending on assigned department. Work is performed under general supervision.

Minimum qualifications:

  • High school graduate or recognized GED.
  • Two years of verifiable work experience operatingbackhoe, loader, forklifts, bobcat, roller, dump truck, Vac-con truck and tack machine and other construction equipment in a related field.

Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations:

  • Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License, Class B, CDL with air brakes and tanker endorsements or obtain it within six months of the hire date

Skills:

  • Able to be on call during regular off duty hours for emergencies.
  • Knowledge of principles and methods of operating a backhoe, loader, truck and other equipment.
  • Knowledge of practices, methods and materials used in construction and maintenance in water/sewer network and streets maintenance.
  • Knowledge of rules and regulations pertaining to safety and operation of equipment.
  • Ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment and detect problems with equipment.
  • Ability to perform manual work.
  • Ability to follow and understand written and oral instructions.
  • Skill in cleaning and maintaining equipment.
  • Skill in operating a truck and trailer for transporting equipment.
  • Skill in the use of hand and power tools.
