SUNY Delhi seeks a dynamic, forward-thinking, and engaging individual to fill a full-time, 10-month, visiting instructor position within the Golf and Sports Turf Management Program. Housed within the Division of Veterinary Science and Professional Studies, the program offers an Associate in Applied Sciences degree in Golf and Sports Turf Management as well as a Bachelor of Business Administration in Golf Course Management. The program is unique in its approach to experiential learning by way of its relationship with the SUNY Delhi College Golf course.

Additionally, the program works in concert with the NYS Department of Labor, New York State Turfgrass Association and SUNY, to support the related instruction component of the newly established Groundskeeper Apprenticeship. This two-year apprenticeship is a first-of-its-kind, hybrid curriculum with on-the-job, online and on campus components.

The ideal candidate will have the ability to teach core courses within the GSTM and Groundskeeper apprenticeship programs. An in depth understanding of the theory and application of turf management is required. The position will require a teaching load of 15 contact hours each semester which should include collaborative efforts to provide out of class experiences for students. Class assignments will be dependent upon candidates teaching and professional experiences but could include classes such as Introduction to Horticulture, Freshman Orientation, Turfgrass Special Projects, Horticultural Chemicals, Golf Course Facilities Management, Managing Athletic Surfaces, Turfgrass Management, Water Management and Trends in Turf Management. Position could potentially assume responsibility for internship coordination for program students.

Additional responsibilities include:

Program Development:

  • Participate in annual systematic assessment of the program

  • Participate in analyzing data and make recommendations for curriculum and programmatic revisions where necessary

Teaching Responsibilities:

  • Provide evidence-based instruction in accordance with the policies set forth by the College

  • Aid with instructional support in labs where needed

  • Post and keep regular office hours for the convenience of students

  • Participate in the assessment of course, student learning, and program outcomes

  • Incorporate student service-learning opportunities

Academic & Organization Commitment

  • Participate in faculty meetings

  • Engage in the academic and organizational life of the college

    Job Requirements:

Requirements:

  • Earned bachelor's degree in turf management, horticulture, plant science or related field

  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience

  • Valid unrestricted driver's license

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of one year of collegiate teaching experience

  • Industry related certifications

  • Salary: $52,000
