ConvaTec Convatec Sustainability Summer Internship Programme - Packaging in Deeside, United Kingdom
Achieving net zero by 2045 is an integral part of Convatec’s commitment to protecting the planet and supporting communities through Convatec Cares, our approach to Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG). Last year, Convatec took an important step on this journey, by setting near term science-based carbon reduction targets.
To help drive progress in 2024, Convatec is launching a global sustainability internship programme across a range of sustainability disciplines, from materials scientists to mechanical engineers – to focus on specific opportunities and help prepare the workforce of the future to drive sustainability. Interns will be placed across our Global Quality & Operations, Technology & Innovation, and Global Corporate Affairs teams.
Sustainability internship programme
Convatec’s sustainability internship programme will offer emerging leaders the opportunity to engage in a variety of focused topics during Q3. The aim of the programme is to give interns a learning experience that allows the application of skills and development in a professional setting, whilst supporting our subject matter experts to advance key priority projects.
About the role
This role reports into the Product Packaging Manager, who will provide guidance and mentorship during the placement. The role will be active across packaging and operations and you will have a defined project to complete analysis on the different packaging materials we purchase to update the database, understand the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and investigate alternatives.
100% paid internship – 1,833.33 GBP monthly gross.
Length of the internship – From July until September.
Hours per week – 35h/week.
Your key duties and responsibilities
Work closely with packaging manager to understand the different packaging materials we use.
Work closely with team members to expand the data collection and processing to enhance the fledgling database through active investigations within packaging operations.
Carry out desktop investigations to understand emissions per different material types we use in secondary and tertiary packaging.
Construct a survey of secondary and tertiary packaging materials with a view to suggest better alternatives.
Directly investigate requirements to replace current Sellotape (plastic) type shipper closing material with a paper-based alternative, include the environmental benefit calculations.
Complete a comprehensive report clearly explaining the progress achieved on the database, packaging emissions mapping and plastic seloptape replacement activities.
Present findings to Packaging Leadership Team

English language – good communication level.
Working towards or holds a technical / engineering qualification
Nice to have
Basic knowledge of materials and manufacturing equipment.
Proficient inMicrosoft office suite of applications.
