In this position…

Lead the North America Exterior Front Closures Systems Design & Release product engineering team to successfully create designs that are on time for each program milestone, while meeting the quality, cost, weight, and functional performance requirements.

What you'll do…

  • Concurrently execute multiple programs from cradle to grave including studio development, UP gateway checkpoints, FDJ, P Release, PEC/FEV and production launch

  • Lead interface development with studio team on resolution of design issues related to Exterior Front Closures system

  • Chair Technical Design Reviews demonstrating strict adherence to engineering “first principles”, robust Failure Mode Avoidance (Quality History, Boundary Diagram, DFMEA, SCCAF, DVP&R) and robust signoff with engineering evidence at FDJ, FEC and OKTB

  • Support programs and launches with appropriate need; travel as req'd in support of critical issues and launch events.

  • Improve Current Model quality, when required

  • Generate cost reductions and revenue opportunities for current and future model programs

  • Lead and resolve all financial and part design related issues for all tier 1 suppliers

You'll have...

Minimum

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related degree, Masters preferred

  • 10+ years’ experience in Body Exterior Engineering (PSC, FDJ, DCV, FEC, J1 & Post OKTB)

  • A fundamental understanding of our customers wants and needs which enables the correct technical and business decisions, including trade-offs, that results in a customer centric design.

  • Ability to drive cross functional alignment utilizing, sounds engineering physics and methods.

  • Strong leadership characteristics that demonstrate the Ford Operating Behaviors

  • Ability to utilize and demonstrate System Engineering disciplines and Design for Manufacturing principles to create design and solve issues.

  • Proven program delivery and launch experience (PVT experience is also a plus).

  • Knowledge of craftsmanship expectations, Five Lab, benchmarking and futuring

  • Existing knowledge of exterior closures components, interfaces, materials and manufacturing technologies

  • Experience successfully delivering product through the studio feasibility checkpoint process

  • Demonstrated ability to resolve complex issues using 8D and 3x5Why tools and effectively communicate to management

  • Experience as launch engineer in Exterior

  • Masters preferred

  • Hands on experience with “in-house” Ford engineering, design (CAD & CAE) and release as well as proactively managing FSS with on time delivery, is desired.

Excellent communication and presentation skills required to lead Ford team and Full Service Suppliers as well as lead management reviews
