Cleveland-Cliffs Steel has open opportunities for Diesel Mechanics at our Dearborn Works location. Diesel Mechanicsare responsible forcontributing to the maintenance team by handling all aspects of mechanical maintenance on heavy equipment. They must be competent in troubleshooting and repairing mechanical systems.
Summary of Responsibilities: Perform all maintenance and repair functions necessary to maintain operating equipment. Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical systems. Be able to perform all aspects of mechanical work. Proven mechanical aptitude in a previous applicable position. Read and understand air and hydraulic schematics. Hydraulic troubleshooting skills ae preferred. Work with different trades to accomplish departmental and company goals. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: A minimum of a 2 year degree in Diesel or Mechanical Maintenance (preference given for Diesel Mechanic) OR at least 2 years of professional Diesel Mechanic or Heavy Equipment Mechanic experience is required. Minimum High School Diploma/GED required. Must have theability to perform continuous physical tasks for extended periods of time. Safely and efficiently work, stand and walk on varied surfaces and uneven ground and/or climbing on/off equipment in varying conditions (concrete floors, gravel, rail car floors, snow, ore pellets, etc.). Must have and maintain a valid driver's license. Position requires working at heights of up to 20 feetor more, indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, in, on and around moving heavy equipment and in close clearance spaces with exposure to fumes, noise, dust, dirt and vibrations. Must have the ability to frequently reach, push/pull and/or lift and maneuver objects of varying dimensions and weights. Must be comfortable working in a heavy equipment environment - indoors and outdoors during all seasons and weather.
Due to the nature of our 24/7, 365 days a year operation, candidates are required to be willing to work any shifts, any day of the week including nights, weekends, and holidays.
