Job Title: Canvasser

Job Status: Temporary Part-time (up to 25 hours weekly)

Bilingual: Arabic/English preferred

Job Summary: Under limited supervision, the Canvasser must be a skilled verbal communicator who engages the public to market products, solicit donations, disseminate information, or gather information on behalf of the organization. The Canvasser will conduct outreach for ACCESS- civic engagement initiatives, including voter registration, Get Out the Vote (GOTV) Census completion, and community needs assessment by knocking on doors, tabling at community events, businesses, gas stations, religious and community institutions and grocery stores, etc. they may also conduct phone & text -banking to register more people to vote.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • May conduct door-to-door canvassing

  • May conduct phone outreach based on assigned activities

  • May utilize walk/call sheets for field canvassing and phone banking activities

  • Meet numeric targets for outreach activities including door and phone/text canvassing

  • Memorize and understand scripts

  • Enter data into spreadsheets

  • May table no less than three times a week at larger and community events

  • May coordinate phone banks

  • May coordinate volunteer activities

  • Rational organizing: Talk to community members in smaller settings, conduct focus groups and outreach

  • May execute annual and community events for voter registration drives

  • May use Voter Activation Network & other software to conduct phone banking and texting activities

  • Complete a canvassing training prior to any canvassing duties

  • Operate standard office equipment and use required software applications

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • Canvassing or community organizing best practices

  • Customer service and sales

  • Voter registration qualifications & voter rights, (if needed)

  • Voting deadlines, absentee ballot application deadlines, voter registration deadlines in-person vs. online and by mail (if needed)

  • Online voter engagement (if needed)

Skill in:

  • Strong communication skills

  • Public speaking is a plus

  • Operating standard office equipment and using required software applications for program area and other applications, including Microsoft Office

Ability to:

  • Work in a team-oriented environment

  • Work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends

  • Incite enthusiasm and participation from community members

  • Speak English, ability to speak another language including Arabic and/or Spanish a plus

    Educational/Previous Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum Degree Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent

and

  • 6 months of experience in community engagement or customer service field. Any equivalent combination of experience, education and/or training approved by Human Resources

    Working Conditions:

Hours: Normal business hours, some additional hours may be required on evenings and/or weekends

Travel Required: Local travel up to 100%.
