Senior Network Engineer

Merrifield, VA-Hybrid

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide design and ongoing support of local area networks and wide area networks used in mail processing applications.

  • Plan, design, build, configure, test, document, and implement both a physical and logical network infrastructure.

  • Configure routers and switches, with appropriate network communications protocols, and their implementation via network hardware and software.

  • Provide Tier 3 help desk support for resolving complex network problems involving multiple applications and organizations.

    Requirements:

  • Familiarity with all layers of OSI model and network communication protocols and working knowledge of Cisco hardware.

  • At least 5 years hands-on experience with configuring and troubleshooting Cisco switches and routers.

  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems involving networks and application systems.

  • Ability to create network architecture solutions for new applications based on user requirements.

  • Experience with SolarWinds products and Sniffer software.

  • Ability to create technical documentation such as statement of work, technical presentations, and after action support reports.

  • Help Desk experience at the Tier 3 level.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.

    Preferred but not required:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Windows and Linux Operating systems including basic administration, communications, and networking configurations.

  • Experience working in a virtualized environment.

  • Knowledge of network traffic load balancing concepts

  • Experience with either Windows or Linux based scripting languages. (PowerShell/VBS or Python/Perl/Ruby/Bash)

  • CCNA or better certification will be a plus.

    Clearance Requirement:

  • The candidate must be able to obtain a sensitive security clearance from USPS.
