About Dayton Job Corps

Job Corps' national mission is to educate and train highly-motivated young people, ages 16-24, for successful careers in the nation's fastest-growing industries. Here at Dayton Job Corps Center, we support their mission by teaching eligible young people, the skills they need to become employable and independent, and place them in meaningful jobs or further education. Students here have access to room and board while they learn skills in specific training areas for up to three years. The program helps them to complete their high school education, trains them for meaningful careers, provides transitional support services, and assists them with obtaining employment. Job Corps graduates either enter the workforce or an apprenticeship, go on to higher education, or join the military.

Purpose:

Reports to the Career Pathways Director. Responsible for providing students with the skills and knowledge necessary to pass the written and driving portions of the state operator's license examination.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Provides classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction that meets state-mandated requirements.
  • Assists students with prior offenses in re-establishing their eligibility and securing a license prior to completion.
  • Ensures that all student test results and progress are documented and recorded using the automated Center Information System (CIS).
  • Maintains up-to-date skills in field of specialty through available sources such as publications, formal study programs, and in-service training.
  • Models, mentors, and monitors the positive normative culture of the center.
  • Acts as a responsible custodian for assigned center property.
  • Reports violations of ethical behavior.
  • Suggests opportunities for continuous operational improvement and reduction of waste.
  • Identifies and reports environmental health and safety concerns.
  • Ensures drivers/staff are educated and updated on all transportation/driver-relevant information

Requirements

Driving Instructor's License is Required

.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience: Two years of drivers education/instructor is required. BMV/DMV experience is preferred.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to complete all mandated training requirements per government and management directives
  • Ability to deal with a variety of staff and students in a professional manner in diverse situations
  • Timely completion and accuracy of all departmental work
