Palmer College of Chiropractic is looking for a Technical Library Assistant!

The Technical Library Assistant is responsible for performing a variety of both technical and specialty tasks and responsibilities in the Library’s Access, Collection Management, Information and Instruction and Special Collections and Archives departments.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Responsible to the assigned administrator and has a support responsibility to all other departments and college personnel as necessary.

Responsible for the supervision of work study students as assigned.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform a variety of assigned technical and specialty tasks in support of the day to day Access, Collection Management, Information and Instruction, Special Collections and Archives Departmental operations of the Library

  • Communicate with staff on a regular basis regarding status of projects, new projects, changes in policies and procedures; coordinate assignments and coverage of service desks within the Library.

  • Utilize appropriate Library departmental software to manage, organize and perform data-entry as required; analyze the effects of Library software on Library procedures; recommend or make adjustments as required; trouble-shoot minor computer software problems.

  • Prepare narrative reports, basic analysis of statistical data each month as requested; create and update procedure manuals as requested; apprise supervisor of equipment needs for the unit.

  • Provide information assistance in the absence of Library staff.

  • Participate in meetings, seminars and workshops as assigned.

  • Perform all responsibilities in a manner that fully complies with Palmer’s Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action policy.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to utilize personal computer and various Library software packages.

  • Ability to perform assigned duties with time pressures and frequent interruptions.

  • Ability to maintain multiple projects at one time.

  • Ability to utilize general office equipment and other necessary equipment.

  • Ability to analyze and resolve difficult problems.

  • Ability to work independently and autonomously.

  • Ability to calculate and analyze numerical data.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 25 pounds.

  • Ability to work various hours as job requires.

     

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

     

    Associate’s degree with library related course work; Bachelor’s degree preferred; at least three years progressively responsible related Library experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Requires demonstrated customer service skills.

     

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Performs sedentary to light work in a ventilated, lighted, and temperature controlled office setting.

  • May work in areas where dust, mold and mildew may be present.

  • Frequent need to stand, stoop, walk, sit, lift light objects (up to 25 pounds) and perform other similar actions during the workday.
