       The Davenport Community School District is an EEO/AA employer.* PART TIME POSITION*This is a grant funded position with a project period of October 1, 2024 - September 20, 2029. Funds are awarded annually contingent on availability of SNAP-Ed funds directed through the Iowa Department of Human Services, Food Assistance Program. HOURLY RATE: $19.86 hour plus depending on education and experienceHOURS: TBD/Split Shift Duties & Responsibilities: Essential Functions of Position, Major Responsibilities, Summary of Key Duties, Special Assignments, Relationships)

  • Must be knowledgeable and trained in nutrition and/or dietetics, health education, public health or elementary education.

  • Meet monthly with Nutrition Education Coordinator to plan and review monthly classroom lessons.

  • Teach monthly nutrition education classes, including a physical activity, in assigned Kindergarten, 1st and 3rd grades classrooms using Pick a better snack lessons.

  • Participate in Pick a better snack programs outside the classroom setting as assigned.

  • Use food safety practices when preparing food for classroom tastings.

  • Fulfill necessary requirements for paperwork, data collection and monitoring as needed.

  • Participate in program evaluations as assigned.

  • Demonstrate positive interpersonal skills with students, parents and staff.

  • Attend yearly INN grant training meeting.

  • Must be able to provide own transportation.

  • Successful candidate must possess strong inter-personal skills with a proven record of building rapport with culturally diverse students to ensure each child reaches his/her full potential.

  • Good attendance and punctuality are a must to ensure that the duties and responsibilities of the job are performed successfully.

  • Must be willing to support and implement Davenport's multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) for both behavior and academics.

  • Sit, stand, speak, hear, see, and walk to carry out routine duties.

  • Must be able to supervise students in all types of weather.

  • Meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.

  • Must be able to implement Crisis Prevention Intervention strategies, including appropriate physical restraint procedures and escorting.

  • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree in nutrition and/or dietetics health education, public health or elementary education

  • Teaching experience in group setting with elementary age children preferred

  • Possess strong inter-personal skills while collaborating with grant project manager, classroom teachers and other school staff.
