Geisinger Medical Records Specialist in Danville, Pennsylvania

Job Summary

Works independently and as a team to complete a wide variety of tasks assigned specific to the Preparation and Processing operations.

Job Duties

  • Answer phones, assist callers, and relay messages as necessary.

  • Merge/Update unidentified patients within 24 hours for the system.

  • Provides 24/7 coverage for Telemedicine linking of the Medical Record and provides off hour.

  • Preps, Scans, QCs and validates paper medical records for appropriate locations (Inpatient and Outpatient Surgery) into the Kofax/Tower system, so they are viewable in the Electronic Medical Record (EPIC).

  • This work is done both in an office setting as well on inpatient floors using mobile carts/scanning units.

  • Performs Double number verifications and merges for the entire Health system.

  • Will identify corrective actions to decrease the number of duplicate medical record numbers created.

  • If paper records exist all information will be combined into the keep number.

  • Generates the Health Plan Extract Report (M-F and Holidays).

  • Searches for MRNs and assigns new MRNs for patients who do not have an existing MRN.

  • Enters MRNs on the extract and returns to the Health Plan within 24 hours.

  • Releases Medical Information for urgent and emergent continuation of care cases during off hours, weekends, and holidays.

  • Assigns new medical record numbers in both Epic and Siemens systems and inputs patient demographic information.

  • Verify all scanned records are viewable in the proper encounter within the EPIC system.

  • Copy QIO appeals on off hours (weekends and holidays) if received.

  • Retrieves paper records, and microfilm from the file area and all appropriate Campus Clinic Areas for all requesting departments in the hospital and re-files all returning records to the department.

  • Provides 24/7 coverage to transport and dispatch records/mail ect.

  • to appropriate locations.

  • Enters deceased dates for system per Weekly Death Report, Obits, Phone Calls, and Death Notifications.

Work is typically performed in a clinical environment. Constant standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 25 pounds are involved in job duties.
