Our DC Diesel Mechanic find themselves working in several areas such as order selecting, picking, packing, quality assurance, and shipping orders to our 6000 stores.

Position Summary

Safely completes routine preventive maintenance and non-routine repairs to include air conditioning, brakes, tires, minor engine, and emissions system repairs on all AutoZone power fleet equipment. Also performs routine and non-routine trailer maintenance and repairs to include but not limited to brakes, tires, electrical and hydraulic lift gates. Welding and hot works will be required from time to time. Also must be able to perform advanced engine and transmission diagnostics and repairs. Oversees inventory of fleet maintenance parts room. Completes all required AutoZone and DOT documentation.

Key Responsibilities

• Safely completes Preventive Maintenance on all AutoZone equipment

• Performs diagnostics and repair work on all aspects of tractors and trailers like air conditioning, brakes, tires liftgates and emission systems

• Ability to perform advanced engine and transmission repairs

• Performs trailer maintenance as needed to include brakes, tires, lift gate and hydraulic repairs

• Oversees inventory control of Parts Room

• Completes all required AutoZone and DOT documentation

• Identifies areas of opportunity and takes initiative to research and recommend solutions

• Able to partner with external vendors for continued learning on equipment

• Understands department objectives and impact to overall organization

• Provides leadership and coaching to both trailer and Level I tractor mechanics

• Must complete ARC training to become warranty certified and maintain annual training requirements (includes Freightliner Warranty Certification)

Education and/or Experience

REQUIRED:

• A high school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.), may include specialized or vocational courses

• Minimum of 5 years’ experience

• Must be Air Brake certified

• Type of Experience: Diesel engine (Detroit and Cummins)

PREFERRED:

• 2 year technical degree

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • This position requires you to have the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. while pushing, pulling lifting, bending and stooping and using lifting techniques and move loads.

  • Constantly required to stand, walk, climb stairs, reach, kneel, crouch or crawl.

  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust and focus

  • Ability to hear safety horns, PIE horns, pre-shift announcements/safety messages, pages, and voxware picking with headset

  • Ability to work in a Safety Sensitive environment (operation of PIE / heavy PIE traffic throughout the distribution center); moving conveyors, heights; maintain awareness of surroundings at all times and quick reaction time to hazardous conditions are necessary
