Summary:

Point of Care Coordinator is responsible for implementing and coordinating point-of-care patient testing throughout the hospital. This position works in cooperation with the Point of Care Training Committee (POCT) and is responsible for ensuring that all regulatory requirements are enforced, and timely and accurate test results are produced by well trained hospital staff.

Responsibilities:

  1. Ensures that all point-of-care testing sites within the hospital are in compliance with the current regulatory standards. Participates in onsite inspections as needed.

  2. Writes procedures in CLSI format for point-of-care tests and distributes up-to-date procedures to the appropriate testing sites.

  3. Advises & assists point-of care testing contact persons by helping with initial training due to procedural changes. Assists with initial training of new POCT personnel and makes recommendations for annual assessment of testing personnel for competency.

  4. Ensures that patient testing is consistent by using established reference ranges and critical values. Ensures standardization of recording and reporting of patient results.

  5. Establishes a quality control program and a proficiency program for each test method used. Monitors these results for compliance, precision, accuracy, trending and shifting.

  6. Reviews equipment for acceptable performance. Repairs and replaces as necessary.

  7. Negotiates with sales representatives. Evaluates new product lines as needed. Performs validation studies on new instruments.

  8. Attends meetings for and participates actively on POCT Committee. Reviews issues, test selection criteria and any deviation from established procedure. Makes suggestions for improvements in quality and efficiency.

  9. Acts as liaison between the laboratory and nursing/patient care department.

  10. Follows all policies of WCHN and the Laboratory and performs other duties as required. Maintains techncial competency where applicable.

  11. Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.

  12. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required: Bachelor's Degree

Minimum Experience: five years

Desired: Medical Technologist. Knowledge of statistics. Experience in method evaluation and procedure preparation. Good interpersonal skills.
