Rush Enterprises Vehicle Modification Technician in Dallas, Texas

The Vehicle Modification Technician performs inspections, layouts, fabrication and/or installation of new and modified Class 7 and 8 truck and trailer chassis and components, including current or revised applications.

Responsibilities:

  • Read job order and observes and listens to vehicle in operation to determine malfunction and to plan work procedures.

  • Installation, repair and inspection of Class 7 and 8 trucks to include chassis, engine and driveline, axles, steering, cooling system, cab, body and mounting; understanding of reasons for torque settings.

  • Installation, repair and inspection of vehicle hydraulic pumps, motors and piping to include installation and testing of wet kits.

  • Installation, repair and inspection of vehicle compressed air systems to include vehicle braking; related fail-safe systems and proper installation of lines and reservoirs. Knowledge of compressed gas fuel systems.

  • Vehicle control, starting, charging, and lighting systems and circuits. Background knowledge permits learning to perform chassis, brake, engine and drivetrain diagnostics.

  • Able to fit and install steel and aluminum panels, accessories and fenders using shears, snips, cutoff tools, rivets and fasteners with minimal guidance.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

  • Four years’ experience.

  • Appropriate manufacturer training and/or certification.

  • Commercial driver’s license; must be insurable.

  • DOT inspection experience desirable.
