Amazon Principal Finance Manager, Fulfillment Optimization in Dallas, Texas

Description

Have you ever ordered a product on Amazon and when that box-with-the-smile arrives you wonder how it got to you so fast? Wondered where it came from and how much it cost Amazon? Amazon operates the most complex retail networks in the world, delivering billions of packages to hundreds of millions of homes and businesses annually. The Fulfillment Optimization (FO) team automates and optimizes decision-making for this network. The FO Finance team is seeking a Principle Finance Manager to support the Fulfillment Optimization team. They will be responsible for providing financial support for fulfillment projects that drive multi-billion dollar fulfillment decisions. This role will partner closely with teams of data scientists, economists, machine learning specialists, software developers, and product managers who lead the industry in the development of innovative algorithms and optimization strategies to maximize long term growth and profitability of Amazon’s Consumer business. The candidate will be responsible for financial planning inputs and explaining output of scientific models that drive worldwide network transportation design and connectivity decisions to support key planning targets. This includes developing a deep understanding of cost inflection points and their associated financial tradeoff curves.

Key job responsibilities

  • Leading cross-functional teams through partnership with Operations and Finance teams to drive both short-term incremental improvements and long-term strategic changes to our fulfillment network and optimization software

  • Root cause issues quickly and uncover core issues using data, then assist, consult with, and teach the business how decisions affect costs and create new mechanisms as they are needed

  • Partnering with finance leaders across Amazon to design and execute programs to drive value

  • Communicating financial and business results to senior business leaders

Basic Qualifications

  • 10+ years of tax, finance or a related analytical field experience

  • BA or BS in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, or a highly analytical field (e.g., Engineering, Math, Computer Science)

  • 10+ years of finance experience, or Master’s degree and 8+ years of finance experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA, or CPA

  • Experience in a leadership position managing finance, accounting and operational processes

  • Knowledge of Excel and Excel VBA at an expert level

  • Proven track record of taking ownership and driving results individually and cross-functionally

  • Ability to manage tight deadlines, prioritize workload and achieve effective results in a fast-paced, dynamic, ever-growing and often ambiguous environment; effective multi-tasking skills are vital

  • A strong ability to work with economists and scientists in order to understand and communicate with simplification and accuracy to stakeholder groups

  • Ability to write and read basic SQL. Advanced SQL would be considered a plus

  • Ability to translate large amounts of data into useful information and actionable items

  • Ability to think at both the strategic and implementation level – to think big while also diving deep

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $111,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $207,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
