We are looking for an experienced and self-motivated individual to fill the position of Manager, Environmental with our corporate office located in Dallas, TX.

Essential Job Duties:

This position is responsible for ensuring and improving company-wide and individual facility compliance with air, water, and solid waste related environmental laws and regulations.  This may be done through any combination of program/procedural development, technical support, regulatory support, training, and direct mentoring of facility personnel.  Responsibilities may also include implementing Corporate HES/environmental technical plans, programs, procedures, standards, goals, and objectives - such as regulatory compliance, enforcement activity management, incident investigation support, etc.  This position will also provide environmental multimedia program support for permit development, regulatory analysis, compliance plans, special projects and programs for all facility and corporate organizations.  Additional specific tasks include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Provide leadership to the organization in the identification, development, and implementation of areas of focus to promote continuous improvement in environmental program management.
  • Develop strategies for and negotiate resolution of specific compliance issues.
  • Initiate special projects to anticipate and/or respond to developing, proposed, or finalized regulatory issues, e.g. MACT revisions, TMDLs for specific facilities, RCRA waste handling issues, etc.
  • Provide technical expertise to management, facilities, and other Oxy divisions where an air, water, or solid waste related issue is expected to have a significant impact.
  • Participate on facility audit teams and assist facilities in responding to audit action items and provide regulatory assistance to facilities to improve processes and documentation to demonstrate compliance.
  • Negotiate permit provisions, both renewal and modifications for expanded/new facilities, with regulatory agencies to obtain timely and cost-effective results.
  • Participate on Industry association committees responsible for environmental related issues.  Assess the impact of proposed regulatory and legislative changes on our products and operations and prepare comments on behalf of the company to ensure company position is represented.
  • Provide periodic training on air, water, and/or waste related topics.
  • Accept and manage other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Health, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Health Science and/or closely related discipline.
  • 10 – 15 years of overall Environmental air, water, and/or solid waste experience.
  • Requires in depth knowledge of Federal and State regulations in addition to OxyChem Environmental policies and procedures.
  • Broad range of plant level experience to provide guidance and direction to OxyChem facility environmental professionals.
  • Manage any aspects of air, water, and solid waste environmental programs.
  • Ability to travel up to 25%.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft applications (such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills at all levels of a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to quickly adjust to change within a dynamic environment.
  • Must be able to deal with ambiguity, requires strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Ability to articulate complex regulations in fashion that is easy to understand at all levels.
