We’re looking for a Technology leader with a proven track record in leading technology and architecture strategy as well as transformation of legacy systems into a modernized and future-forward technology. This leader will have an engineering first mindset and believe in providing a delightful self-service developer and engineering experience, inspire and grow engineering competency within the Technology organization, and partner across enterprise organizations to build the future of American Airlines technology. They will be strategic in assessing industry technology trends, driving rapid incubation and adoption at American with operational impact front of mind.

Lead American’s technology strategies, governance model, and drive Architecture Principles and Engineering Tenets
Provide clear architectural and strategic guardrails that empower teams to operate autonomously
Increase innovation by evaluating and accelerating the overall adoption of emerging technologies
Lead an organization of architects responsible for the design, build, and operations of platforms and tools that enable consistent technology delivery across the enterprise
Promote technical excellence by raising the visibility of engineering practices and driving the adoption of automation platforms that accelerate cloud migration
Focus on solving engineering problems and ensure all architectural activities add value and enable developers, modernizing processes
Provide oversight and escalation of architectural risks related to technology controls, vendors, or other risk scenarios
Communicate and sell the technical vision for the portfolio
Decompose very complex systems into their essential functions
Drive action plans in all parts of the portfolio around Resiliency, Adaptability, and Interoperability
Coordinate architectural choices within the standards defined across American Airlines
Establish and design centralized standards for SDLC process, tools, managing technical debt, SLAs, and tech stack choices
All you'll need for success
Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
Demonstrates the highest level of ethics and integrity
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Technology, Information Systems (CIS/MIS), Engineering or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience/training; Advanced Degree preferred
7 years of progressive technology leadership experience, including development, infrastructure, and architecture teams
10 years of experience with software engineering, architecture, and infrastructure technologies
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to communicate with senior business and IT stakeholders effectively and clearly, and to sell a technical strategy and vision
Ability to communicate a strategic vision and technical concepts effectively and clearly to engineering audiences both verbally and in written communication
Proficiency and tenure leading in Agile, DevOps and SDLC methodologies
Extensive experience collaborating with cross-functional architecture groups
Skills, Licenses & Certifications
Ability to drive action plans in resiliency, adaptability, and architectural coupling concepts such as API and other interface-driven techniques
Proficiency in understanding where to gain leverage on evolving our architectures and driving change in areas where we expect to need to evolve more frequently
Ability to explain technical concepts and adjust messaging based on the audience, including non-technical groups
Ability to build collaborative relationships with, and consensus amongst, multiple stakeholders with varying points of view
Ability to influence through outstanding interpersonal skills, collaboration, and negotiation skills
Ability to think strategically, negotiate skillfully, digest complex details, and use sound judgment and initiative in making decisions
Ability to adapt to unexpected events, new facts, and rapidly changing circumstances
Ability to thrive in a sense-of-urgency environment and leverage best practices
Demonstrated understanding of emerging technology trends
Proven experience in growing engineering practices such as infrastructure as code, containerization, source control management, CI/CD, and test automation
Proven ability to manage internal and external resources, as well as manage relationships with 3rd party providers and partners
Demonstrated ability to solve, and to lead others in solving, complex analytical problems
Willingness to take calculated risks
Ability to build and facilitate relationships at all levels of the organization, both internally and externally
Self-driven with a natural aptitude for engaging employees in multiple workgroups
