Performs start-up and functionality checking on newly installed HVAC, plumbing and electrical components, equipment and systems. Completes all required documentation and routes to appropriate manager/supervisor. Interfaces with customers and clients, internal managers and vendors. Coordinate, checkout, release and start-up of systems with Subcontractor and Client. Reports to Start-up Superintendent. Works under limited supervision, makes decisions based on expertise, knowledge and coordination with internal management. Follows fairly well defined procedures, but has the authority to deviate from them if the technical situation warrants. Reports directly to a Start-Up Supervisor.

Job Description

  • When required by contract or circumstances, insures proper storage of equipment waiting for installation including compliance with special storage requirements.

  • Interprets drawings, identify errors/omissions, make corrections as needed.

  • Makes sure all components and systems are installed per applicable city and trade code.

  • Ensures newly installed equipment is plumb, level and aligned.

  • Checks newly installed equipment for operation I/A/W engineering or factory specifications.

  • Checks out the interface between controls and connected equipment for functionality.

  • Maintains continuous status report on work completed. Report, document and follow-up on all deficiencies found; insure corrective action is taken.

  • Forwards all startup forms and documentation to appropriate Polk project manager or supervisor.

  • Coaching and Training

  • Participates in annual documented performance review meetings with mid-year follow-ups with supervisor.

  • By example, fosters and develops improvements and adherence to start-up functional processes and procedures.

  • Using start-up career paths, strengthens own skills to improve capabilities via training and advanced education.

    Requirements

  • Ability to follow specific directions, perform a changing variety of duties, repeat tasks of short duration according to a set procedure and work within precise limits and standards of numerical accuracy. Has excellent attitude and work ethic. Ability to meet customer requirements and maintain an acceptable customer satisfaction rating. Neat and clean appearance. Performs as a self-managed individual. Willingness to continue education and grow personally and professionally. Responsibly cares for company property.

  • Demonstrate a level of proficiency and competence on the skill based pre-employment exam.

  • Proficiency and competence to effectively diagnose, repair, install and maintain larger sized commercial HVAC, refrigeration, electrical and/or plumbing systems and/or equipment.

  • 5-10 years’ mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, and/or electrical system/equipment work experience.

  • Stable work history showing responsibility and professional growth.

  • High school diploma or equivalent; diploma from a recognized trade or technical school or equivalent comprised of 5-10 years’ experience and training.

  • Maintains on-going required continued education, professional licenses and/or certifications as required by the position.

  • Diagnostic ability as demonstrated through prior experience and/or training.

  • Meets requirements of company vehicle driving policy.

  • Ability to safely operate a commercial motor vehicle as evidenced by past driving performance record and to adhere to all company safety requirements.

  • Ability to competently use a variety of gauges, meters, measuring instruments, hand and power tools and equipment.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with peers, supervisors and the customer.

  • Good math, verbal, written skills
