Job Description SUMMARY Ensures processing and forwarding of merchandise. Prepares merchandise to be returned to suppliers or delivered to customers. RESPONSIBILITIES * Verifies and keeps records on incoming and outgoing shipments and prepares items for shipment: Compares identifying information and counts, weights, or measures items of incoming and outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records. * Become a functional user of the companies ERP System to make all required shipping and receiving transactions in an efficient manner. * Affixes shipping labels on packed cartons or stencils identifying shipping information on cartons, using stenciling equipment. * Builds wooden or cardboard containers or selects preassembled containers. * Inserts items into containers, using spacers, fillers, and protective padding. * Nails covers on wooden crates and binds containers with metal banding, using strapping tools. * Posts weight, dimensions, and box type. * Routes incoming items to the appropriate departments. * Examines outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet current Steelastic specifications. * Maintains inventory accuracy of shipping materials and supplies. * Operate overhead crane, forklift truck/tow motor or use hand truck to move, convey, or hoist shipments from shipping- and-receiving platform to storage or work area. * Expected to perform the essential duties and responsibilities in a safe manner and according to the standard set by Steelastic. * Ensures Visitors (truck drivers, delivery personnel) are issued safety vests, glasses, visitor badges, and safety footwear. * Work closely with others to foster a "Team Environment." * Other duties as assigned/requested. * Ability to read a tape measure and to operate all types of pneumatic tools. * Must have a clean driving record to deliver parts to our outside vendors. * Ability to work overtime as needed. QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE * High School Diploma or equivalent. * Minimum of 2 years' experience with Shipping and Receiving in a manufacturing environment required. * Knowledge of international shipments and basic blueprint reading skills considered a plus. COMPUTER SKILLS * Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access & Outlook. * ERP/inventory system experience a plus. LANGUAGE SKILLS * Ability to communicate effectively in a team environment. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS * Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as weights proportions and volume. * Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra. REASONING ABILITY * Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
