Product Safety Engineer, Cupertino, CA

Description:

The Product Safety Engineering group seeks an experienced Product Safety Engineer who will:

  • Secure safety certifications according to IEC 60950, IEC 62368-1, or similar safety standard to globally commercialize products

  • Support and conduct safety compliance testing and prepare CB test reports.

  • Support lab technicians with test plans, operating and troubleshooting instructions, and firmware/software information for system operation

  • Evaluate product designs of consumer electronics, batteries, or medical devices for safety compliance

  • Evaluate technical information, research facts, and test results to determine compliance with regional and/or international safety standards

  • Conduct component-level safety analysis of electrical circuits, schematics, and assemblies

  • Conduct/Support Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA)

  • Use engineering fundamentals to identify safety hazards

  • Use logic and engineering science to identify the strengths and weaknesses of product designs

  • Timely identify risks and take appropriate actions throughout development activities.

  • Interpret and apply safety standards to new innovative design/technology

  • Prioritize and execute multiple tasks under tight deadlines

  • Review and approve engineering drawings

  • Support manufacturing to improve processes and safeguard product safety

  • Work with cross/multi-functional teams to identify and establish safety requirements

  • Support any escalation activities

Requirements:

  • Bachelors or Master of Science in Electrical, or Electronics Engineering from an accredited university or equivalent

  • Demonstrated experience evaluating product safety and compliance to at least three standards from the following list: IEC/EN/UL/CSA 60950-1, 62368-1, 60065 or 62133

  • Experience performing product safety testing under IEC/EN/UL/CSA 60950-1 62368-1, 60065, or 62133

  • Hands-on experience executing safety tests and evaluating product designs for safety

  • Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication, and organizational skills

  • Experienced in presentations and moderation techniques

  • Present verbally or in writing complex technical topics to both technical and non-technical audiences

  • Able to travel domestically

Special Requirements:

  • Proven experience with global product homologation

  • Demonstrated proficiency in FMEA and/or Safety Fault Tree Analysis

  • Demonstrated ability to see around corners

  • Experience with ISO/IEC 17025 to maintain laboratory equipment and test procedures

Education:

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) preferred.

  • Proven experience in lieu of education shall be considered on case-by-case basis.
