Copeland Development Engineer - New Product Development, Gas Solutions in Cudahy, Wisconsin

If you are a SENIOR LEVEL NEW PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER looking for an opportunity to grow, Copeland has an exciting opportunity for you! As a Senior Solutions Development Engineer, you will be responsible in the development of a standard design of renewable natural gas units and processing equipment. Based in our Cudahy, WI location, you will be a member of the New Product Development Team that directs, coordinates, and exercises functional authority for planning, developing, designing, and the integration of innovative engineering solutions in the fields of RNG, Refrigeration and Heat Pump Applications. As the industrial industry tackles decarbonization initiatives and a more sustainable future, Renewable Natural Gas solutions will be forefront in these efforts. This role will lead these efforts to make a difference in the world of tomorrow.

These new solutions will focus on sustainability, improved efficiency, modular and standard designs in a wide range of industry segments on an international level. You will work with cross-functional teams to develop all the details of the design to integrate purchased components into the manufacturing of the product. The team may include working directly with strategic partners, test laboratories, customers and our Cudahy, Wi and Pune, India team.

AS A SENIOR SOLUTIONS DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER IN NEW PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT, GAS SOLUTIONS, YOU WILL:

  1. Develop compressor and/or package units, meeting engineering specifications and industry standards while ensuring the meeting of company production and quality standards and customer specifications.

  2. Develop the detailed design, BOM, and associated details to support the manufacturing of a standard product design.

  3. Manage projects from inception to completion and ensure proper engineering principles and applications are followed.

  4. Work hands-on to support R&D efforts and the assembly and testing of components on prototype units and in the field as required.

  5. Review drawings and make recommendations to improve design, reduce cost, and/or increase production efficiency, and verify, evaluate, and approve design changes, specifications, and drawing releases.

  6. Assist in pre-job planning, scheduling, and management.

  7. Participate in cross-functional teams to address and resolve problems and ensure continuous improvements in the level of quality.

  8. Analyze indicated and calculated test results in relation to design or rated specifications and test objectives and modify or adjusts equipment to meet specifications.

  9. Organize the collaboration of the design teams international efforts

  10. Complete and maintain all required reports, paperwork, documentation, etc.

  11. Ensure compliance with housekeeping procedures and company quality standards and safety regulations.

WHO YOU ARE:

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering and a minimum of seven (7) years of mechanical experience (rotating machinery) and hands-on mechanical experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Experience in the field of process gas and/or natural gas compression

  • Demonstrate knowledge in compression technologies, thermodynamics, mass flow and heat transfer. Experience using 3D and 2D design computer programs like Inventor/AutoCAD and Vault

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret drawings, specifications, regulatory codes, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations

  • Experience writing reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals and effectively presenting information, including responding to questions from the field sales force, customers, and other employees of the company

  • Good fundamental understanding of thermodynamics and fluid dynamics

  • Established practical problem-solving skills showing the skills to be able to deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists

  • Ability to operate a variety of engineering tools

  • Ability to travel up to 15% of the time

PREFERRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in Industrial and Renewable Natural Gas Applications

  • Master's degree in Engineering

  • Strong English communication skills

  • Experience with compressor technology and qualification testing

  • Demonstrate the ability to work with Manufacturing and Production Engineering to release new products

  • Familiarity with applicable standards and codes: ASME Section VIII, ASME B31.3, NEC, NFPA, IMC, IBC, AWS, etc.
