Cuyuna Regional Medical Center * Med/Surg Crosby, MN Nursing Part Time Over, 12-hour Day Shift FTE: .6 - .9 FTE (48 -72 hrs per pay period) Weekend Requirements: Every 3rd weekend Posted 02/26/2024 Req # 12992 POSITION SUMMARY The House Supervisor assumes responsibility for all nursing care with the hospital; leads and guides members of the nursing team and other related departments in the delivery of care and services in accordance with the mission and values of Cuyuna Regional Medical Center. The House supervisor maintains compliance with the standards of professional Nursing Practice and all state laws and practices. They work collaboratively with other support services within the organization, utilizes resources efficiently, while demonstrating leadership skills by effectively communicating, facilitating and problem solving. The House Supervisor must also lead the nursing team toward the achievement of the goals of the Cuyuna Regional Medical Center. High quality care and overall efficiency are essential components to this success. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience: Previous experience of 2 years in acute care setting required. One year of supervisory/Charge Nurse experience preferred. Inhouse Trauma Training that meets state approved criteria within one year of hire. License/Certificates: Must have valid MN Driver's License. BLS, ACLS NRP and PALS required within 1 year of hire. Special Skills and Aptitudes: Knowledge and skills to implement nursing theory. Demonstrates mature judgment, initiative, and proficiency in nursing skills. Demonstrates leadership qualities and executive and organizational abilities. Ability to lead and supervise patient care team. Ability to interact effectively with physicians, patients and family, staff and other healthcare providers. Ability to adapt resources to the needs of the situation. Knowledge of applied science principles in nursing situations involving techniques and procedures, hygiene and safety measures. Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to recognize manifestation of physical and emotional problems. Knowledge and skills to review charts and enter data efficiently. Teaching ability and ability to work independently using good judgment. Ability to properly and safely operate all equipment required for this position. Knowledge and use of community resources. Maintains good physical and mental health. May be assigned to specialty areas. House Supervisors do not serve as managers and therefore do not handle formal coaching of staff, correction action, and/or performance evaluations. Outside of these duties, Coordinators participate in the regular work of their classification within the department. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES RN: Exercises concern for the patient's welfare, maintains knowledge of the patient's condition, administers medication, and performs treatment while practicing and maintaining high ethical standards. Responsible for the direct and indirect care of residents/patients assigned to her/him under the guidance of the Chief Nursing Officer and/or the Nurse Manager. Maintains accurate and complete records of nursing assessments and care and counsels of the patient and family in meeting nursing and related needs. Remains up to date on new nursing skills and technology utilizing the nursing process (observation, assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation) in the delivery of care. Performs duties in accordance with physician's orders, the Medical Center's policies, methods, and techniques, and in coordinating with other departments and Medical Center personnel. Provides leadership and promotes teamwork. When requested, participates in in-service programs, education programs, and orientation of new personnel. Demonstrate Standards of Excellence when other duties are assigned. House Supervisor: Assesses staffing requirements and makes assignments based on acuity and census and ensures adequate and safe staffing for each shift. H ndles bed control for admissions, discharges, and transfers for acute care hospital. Assists and supports staff with all levels of patient care delivery, including Medical, Surgical, ICU, OB, and ED. Supports ancillary departments after hours including but not limited to Radiology, Laboratory, Respiratory Therapy, EVS, and Ambulance Services. Examples could include notifying all departments of supply shortages or equipment not being available Performs pharmacy duties as appropriate when pharmacist is not available. Is designated as the super user for both EMR and electronic medication dispensing system. Coordinates and directs the daily patient care operations for the department of nursing and other areas as assigned. Assists with patient advocacy issues. Analyzes workloads and skill requirements to meet patient care needs. Assesses staff competencies and makes patient care assignments. Delegates appropriate tasks to appropriate personnel, consistent with legal and professional guidelines and departmental standards. Maintains clear communications with the Chief Nursing Officer and/or Nurse Leadership regarding facility needs and/or incidents. Serves as a resource person in all identified areas. Completes initial individual unit competencies appropriate to role. Maintains competency by both seeking out opportunities to work in these areas and completing unit specific ongoing education. Works a minimum of 1 shift per 6 week schedule as a staff nurse on their home unit. Assists with patient care as needed. Participates in appropriate internal controls for departments and utilizes mechanisms to monitor and promote compliance. Examples may include hand hygiene audits or the review of documentation for adherence to standards. Utilizes and facilitates the use of the most current and effective communication techniques. Leads in the moment event debriefing and communicates findings to nursing leadership. Acts as a facilitator for employee experiencing on the job injuries, connecting them to appropriate resources. Direct and check the work of others. Is the first line of contact and works to resolve any barriers in communication or discrepancies in adherence with policies and procedures. Participate in the orientation and/or training of employees and provide feedback to management. Communicates needs for staff development and assists in planning and presenting appropriate in-services as requested. Coordinate the workflow among employees within the work area. Provide technical and functional direction and support to employees. Inform management on operational needs of the facility. Assist with the modifying of work schedules. Examples may include changing hours or assignments to facilitate orientation after discussion with Nurse Leadership. Assists in reviewing and updating Hospital Nursing Services policies and procedures. Completes initial debrief and response after occurrences such as but not limited to code events, significant changes in patient status, or other incidents. Communicates quality assurance findings to staff and implements resolutions as indicated. Triage patient calls and address or route as appropriate. Postpartum RN: Consult and coordinate with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate mother and infant care plans. Provide consistent optimal care to mother and baby to include assisting with hygienic needs of mother and baby, assessment of mother's pain, timely and accurate mother and infant vital signs, and mother-baby bonding.
