Cuyuna Regional Medical Center * Health Info Mgmt Crosby, MN Administrative Support Full Time, 8-hour Day Shift FTE: 1.0 FTE (80 hours per pay period) Weekend Requirements: No weekends Posted 05/23/2024 Req # 13168 This position is an internal posting for current CRMC employees to apply beginning at 8:00 am on 5/23 until 4:00 pm on 5/29 POSITION SUMMARY The Health Information Specialist II provides ongoing qualitative and quantitative analysis of the patient record to assure accuracy and completeness of patient information. They protect the patient medical record against unauthorized use, maintaining confidentiality and control of access. HIS II coordinate record retrieval and releasing activities for internal and external use of patient information according to established guidelines. They compile medical record information that is generated throughout the facility to produce the unit record for ongoing patient care. Health Information Specialists II work toward the goals of the Cuyuna Regional Medical Center. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience: Graduate from a one or two year accredited Medical Secretary Program or previous medical record experience or knowledge of the operation of the Medical Office/Medical Record Department. Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, and the various medical specialties practiced throughout the facility. Successful completion of data entry, medical terminology, and general clerical standards. License/Certificates: N/A Special Skills and Aptitudes: Displays excellent organizational skills. Ability to deal with the public and answer questions in a professional manner. Ability to withstand stress and work under pressure to complete assigned duties on time. Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion in dealing with confidential information. Must have emotional maturity essential in maintaining harmonious relationships with coworkers and other health care professionals. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES Responsible for chart retrieval and filing. Promptly responds to and/or directs telephone calls and walk-in requests for information from internal and external sources. Pulls expired patient charts and updates computer system. Responsible for compiling medical record information from both internal and external sources for ongoing patient care. Responsible for ongoing medical record maintenance to assure accuracy of information and filing systems. Protects the patient's medical records against unauthorized use and maintains confidentiality. Communicates effectively, verbally and in writing, with coworkers and other facility and clinic personnel. Assists with the monitoring and training of new Health Information Services personnel. Keeps accurate production records and logs as required by department and facility needs. Reports any equipment failure to supervisor and calls for repairs if directed. Demonstrate Standards of Excellence when other duties are assigned. Lead Responsibilities if applicable: Direct and check the work of others. Participate in the orientation and/or training of employees and provide feedback to management. Coordinate the workflow among employees within the work area. Provide technical or functional directions and support to employees. Inform management on operational needs of the department. Assist with the creation of work schedules. Approve requests for time off, schedule changes, or additional ours/overtime and determine sick call replacement, according to a jointly pre-approved process, in the absence of a supervisor or manager. Excellent Customer Service and communication skills are essential for the lead position. Analyze and monitor all assigned work queues, identify error trends and develop training resources to improve accuracy. Work closely with all Revenue Cycle staff to identify and create account accuracy improvement projects.
