Job Information

Taco, Inc. Sr. Buyer in Cranston, Rhode Island

The Sr. Buyer will procure materials, goods and service to ensure operational and customer needs are met. The Sr. Buyer will ensure optimal price, quality and supply goals are met and company inventory and financial objectives are achieved. The Sr. Buyer will develop an understanding of goods they procure and the economic indicators that impact them. The Sr. Buyer will develop and maintain effective relationships with suppliers and will routinely look for alternative sourcing to ensure competitive pricing and supply continuity.

Measures of success:

  • Cost savings / cost reduction activities

  • On-time delivery of goods purchased

  • Maintain optimal Inventory levels for goods purchased

  • Purchase Price Variance

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Procure goods and services to meet demand planning and/or customer requirements

  • Track international shipments and expedite deliveries as necessary

  • Utilize and maintain the ERP system to drive buying activities

  • Track progress of raw materials to ensure on-time delivery to company

  • Establish and maintain relationships with suppliers

  • Identify alternate suppliers for key raw materials to ensure competitive pricing and assurance of supply

  • Leads and / or participates in supplier negotiation activities

  • Develops sourcing strategies as necessary

  • Production planning activities for a limited scope of production line(s)

  • Supports the development of new and existing buyers by mentoring and / or leading training sessions.

  • Identifies and leads teams, continuous improvement projects and company initiatives

  • Active in the monthly S&OP process

  • Transition prototypes from new product development to production requirements

  • Perform other duties as requested by supervisor

This position works at a computer and using the phone for long periods of time. This position must work within the production environment and will be exposed to moderately loud machinery and moving equipment. Personal protective equipment must be worn as required at all times

Required SkillsRequired Experience

Required:

  • BS in Supply Chain, Business, or Operations; extensive, related experience may be accepted in lieu of degree

  • 7+ years of procurement experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment

  • Strong negotiation skills

  • Experience with various ERP systems

  • Strong communication skills- particularly verbal and written

  • Excellent MS Office Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to drive performance improvements in Supply Chain performance

  • Ability to read and interpret documents (i.e., procedures, datasheets, drawings / prints and BOM’s)

  • Collaborative approach to improving business performance

Preferred:

  • MBA

  • Knowledge and / experience of Six Sigma, Lean manufacturing and 5S

  • APICS CSCP and/or CPIM

  • Prior demand planning experience
