Union County College is a public comprehensive community college providing quality, affordable, accessible educational programs that serve the greater Union County region. It is the oldest of New Jerseys 19 Associate Degree Colleges, serving both career-minded and transfer-oriented students since 1933. The College enrolls almost 30,000 credit, non-credit and continuing education students and is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. Many programs lead to the Associate in Arts, Science and Applied Science degrees.

General Description:

Under the supervision of the Dean, the Director of the Nursing Program is responsible for the administrative functions of the Program, including planning, implementation, and evaluation. In addition, the Director prepares course schedules and recommends teaching assignments for all Practical Nursing faculty and oversees the budget.

Characteristics, Duties and Responsibilities:

• Plans, develops, and administers the Practical Nursing Program in accordance with state law and regulation, accreditation standards, and College policy.

• Oversees and manages administrative tasks of the Practical Nursing Program, such as agency contracts, criminal history background checks, and health clearance.

• Oversees student concerns/complaints for the program.

• Oversees the admission and orientation process.

• Plans and oversees outcomes assessment for nursing.

• Ensures that the Student Handbook and related program documents are accurate and reflect College procedures.

• Develops appropriate schedules of course offerings for the Practical Nursing Program.

• Maintains a nursing curriculum that is current, relevant, and directed at program learning outcomes.

• Oversees curricula to ensure currency and relevancy.

• Manages all health-related grants, including Perkins, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, etc. – maintains budgets, completes reports, attends meetings, and advises students.

• Recommends staffing of all nursing faculty.

• Assists in nursing classroom instruction and evaluation.

• Collaborates with the Allied Health coordinators on shared tasks, such as clinical agreements, health requirements, uniforms and criminal background checks.

• Conducts Advisory Committee meetings for the nursing program.

• Coordinates faculty professional development.

• Analyzes program outcomes data

• Collaborate with faculty on efforts such as accreditation and Board of Nursing reports

• Prepares required program and college reports

• Participates on College Committees, including Middle States.

• Oversees the human, fiscal, and programmatic resource needs for practical nursing and related grants.

• Represents the College in activities that involve nursing on a state, regional, and national basis.

• Performs other duties as assigned by the Dean.

Education Requirements:

• Master’s Degree in Nursing required.

Experience:

• Three years successful teaching experience in a Licensed Practical Nursing Program or other nursing programs/schools.

• Three years successful experience in the Administration of a Nursing Program ( LPN or RN) and/or Allied Health.

Competencies and Skills Required:

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

• This position’s duties are normally performed in a typical interior/residence work environment, based on the activity scheduled.

• Some physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

• No or very limited exposure to physical risk.

• Some travel is required.
