Union County College Coordinator for Professional Development and Retention in Cranford, New Jersey

Union County College is a public comprehensive community college providing quality, affordable, accessible educational programs that serve the greater Union County region. It is the oldest of New Jerseys 19 Associate Degree Colleges, serving both career-minded and transfer-oriented students since 1933. The College enrolls almost 30,000 credit, non-credit and continuing education students and is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. Many programs lead to the Associate in Arts, Science and Applied Science degrees.

General Description:

The Coordinator for Professional Development and Retention, under the direction of the Title V Project Director, will develop and implement professional development programs for staff and faculty, and coordinate training opportunities for staff and faculty, collaborate with College leaders to offer professional development workshops on best practices in the areas of student services, on-going training for staff and faculty, and manage professional development assessment.

Characteristics, Duties and Responsibilities:

• Develop and facilitate professional development activities for staff and faculty including, but not limited to, workshops and on-demand skills training.

• Develop and coordinate online training program for Student Services/One Stop employees and other staff on the use of the specific platforms used in the Student Services Center.

• Engage staff and faculty in the development of professional development workshops focused on training for One Stop/Student Services staff, data-informed decision-making in instructional modification, program assessment, innovative pedagogy, and best practices for improving student success for Hispanic/Latinx and underserved and part-time student populations.

• Provide weekly grant usage reports for the professional development and training activities.

• Promote professional development workshops through informational sessions, Canvas, official college communication, meetings, assemblies, etc.

• Collect data and assess results of workshops and activities. Recommend modifications to existing services based on data-informed decision-making.

• Prepare and submit reports to the Title V Project Director, as required.

• Research and inform project staff/faculty on best practices for improving the One Stop student experience, data-informed decision-making and best practices to support the non-traditional student.

• Share grant updates and available resources with the Professional Development Advisory Committee.

• Collaborate with the Title V Preparing Union Students for Career Success staff, faculty, and Program Advisory Team on student success and retention initiatives.

• Perform additional related duties as assigned.

• Maintains essential records and files;

Education Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree required with related experience. Master’s degree in a higher education field preferred.
