Job Summary

Meets and greets primarily non-English speaking community patients and families. Translates verbally, and provides physical translation of, all organizational documents for patients, while maintaining confidentiality. Responsible for the accurate interpretation of medical procedures and explanations as detailed by the health care provider, medical staff and ancillary services. In fulfillment of the Senate Bill 1840 Chapter 672 of the Health and Safety Code, the department fulfills the requirements of Section 1259 by coordinating interpreter services and by providing qualified interpreters on an ongoing basis wherever language barriers exist between patients and the hospital staff. Interpreter Services establishes and reviews written Policies and Procedures as required by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations regarding language assistance for any patients with language and communication barriers.

May also assist with the improvement of patient experience by rounding the hospital campus to check on non-English speaking patients.

Job Requirements

Minimum Education Requirement:

Fluent in English and Spanish. Bilingual - Must be able to interpret between Spanish and English and translate documents.

Minimum Experience Requirement:

Experience as an Interpreter/Translator in a health care setting. Excellent customer service skills required.

Minimum License Requirement:

Health Care Interpreter/Translator Certificate or a Bachelor's degree in Spanish required.
