Under the supervision of the Area Electrical Manager, the primary function of the Electrician, is to install, maintain, perform trouble shooting and repair all types of electrical equipment, for the purpose of obtaining optimum production efficiency.

Essential Functions

  • Install, repair, test, troubleshoot, replace, and maintain area electrical equipment
  • Oversee electrical work from minor repairs to major projects
  • Inspect completed work for conformance with requirements of local building and safety codes
  • Monitor and assist in the planning of daily and future scheduled area repairs
  • Assist with scheduling major electrical projects from ordering parts to performing the work in a timely and cost effective manner
  • Investigate component failures, communicating results to management and employees to aid in increased levels of safe production
  • Assist with the development of budget projections and capital expenditures and be accountable for implementation
  • Assist other aggregate operations (Stone, Sand & Gravel, Rail Terminal) with electrical and mechanical projects, installations and shut downs
  • Assist in developing and maintaining a preventative and predictive maintenance program
  • Mentor, train and provide technical advice to less experience staff regarding electrical repairs and safety procedures
  • Maintain clean and safe work areas
  • Complete daily safety and maintenance reports completely and accurately
  • Adhere to federal, state, local and plant safety rules and regulations
  • Maintain effective communication with plant operational personnel, maintenance and supervision
  • Help with all other plant maintenance as needed
  • Will be required to participate with our on call program after becoming adequately familiar with all our district operations
  • Some travel and overnight stays required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must be able to read, write and verbally communicate
  • Self-starter with ability to work with little or no supervision
  • Must be a team member, willing to assist others when called upon
  • Knowledge of industrial plant operations pertaining to crushing, asphalt and concrete production
  • Knowledge of National Electric Code (NEC), Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) electric standards
  • Must be able to read and understand operator, parts and repair manuals and electrical schematics including ladder logic, used for new installations and trouble shooting existing equipment
  • Must understand the basic operation and can trouble shoot variable frequency motor controllers 480 volt, Motor Soft start controllers 480 and 4160 volt operation along with reduced voltage starters 480 volt
  • Knowledge of electric motor trouble shooting
  • Ability to trouble shoot controls used for plant operations
  • Knowledge of basic PLC logic controls and I/O applications
  • Knowledge of control applications using millivolt and millivolt-amp
  • Knowledge of portable cable repairs 120 through 5000 volt type cables, jacket repairing to full splice using proper methods and within NEC and MSHA standards
  • Must be able to work irregular shifts, weekends and holidays as required
  • Must be able to work overtime and on-call as required
  • Ability to work 10 to 14 hour days, willing to change arrival times when requested

Education and Experience

  • State license either maintenance or journeyman electrician a plus
  • 5 years\' experience in aggregates or similar industry desired
  • Experience with production conveyor belt scales, operation, calibration, trouble shooting and repair desired
  • Must have a valid driver\'s license wi h a good driving history

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to perform duties in a safe manner. This job requires the ability to wear a hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toed boots and hearing protection
  • Must be able to climb stairs to a height of 100 ft. and work at this height
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces
  • Ability to operate radio, CB radio, computer and other equipment as required
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, climb and reach around all areas of equipment
  • Must be able to climb on and off equipment to inspect, service, and operate
  • Capable of lifting up to 75 lbs
  • Must be able to walk across steep/rough terrain
  • Must be able to work at various heights
  • Must have good color vision for electrical repair
  • Possess good vision to perceive depth at close range and distances up to 150 feet
  • Ability to use hand tools such as shovels, wrenches, screwdrivers, etc.
  • Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions consistent with extreme ambient temperatures: heat, cold, wetness, dryness, dust, and noisy conditions
