Green Hills AEA School Based Interventionist - Tri-Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa

Green Hills AEA is currently recruiting a Full-Time School Based Interventionist serving Tri-Center Community School District. The position is a 190 day contract for the 2024-2025 school year.

The School Based Interventionist works with identified at-risk students and families to reduce and prevent issues such as: truancy, behavior problems, pregnancy, drug use, and involvement with law enforcement and the Juvenile Justice System, in order to promote positive social skills, peer mediation, problem solving, effective communication, and academic success. As well as partnering with families to meet their unique needs within an integrated system of early intervention services and within natural communities of support.

Qualifications include: Bachelor's Degree in criminal justice, social work, or education. Prior experience working with youth and families, or any combination of experience and education that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities. Strong verbal and written communication skills required, along with the ability to make connections with students, families, schools, and agencies.

Green Hills AEA employs approximately 311 employees across the southwest region of the state, serving all public and non-public schools in our service area. Starting salary will be approximately $18.00- $24.00 an hour. We offer a competitive starting wage and excellent benefits, including IPERS. Essential functions and responsibilities:

Works with identified at-risk students and families to reduce and prevent issues such as: truancy, behavior problems, pregnancy, drug use, and involvement with law enforcement and the Juvenile Justice System, in order to promote positive social skills, peer mediation, problem solving, effective communication, and academic success. To partner with families to meet their unique needs within an integrated system of early intervention services and within natural communities of support.

In collaboration with, the assigned school district, community, and other relevant groups this position will work with students, school staff, and families to:

  • Reduce and prevent truancy.
  • Promote and improve school attendance.
  • Reduce the number and severity of school discipline referrals.
  • Educate, reduce, and prevent unplanned teenage pregnancies within the school, working with community agencies to better serve students.
  • Educate, reduce, and prevent drug use and abuse.
  • Create and implement small groups to cultivate positive social skills through: peer mediation, problem solving, effective communication, anger management, grief/loss and other related groups that build on academic success.
  • Reduce and prevent involvement with law enforcement and the Juvenile Justice System.
  • Track the progress of referred students' behaviors and academics.
  • Work closely with school administration, guidance counselors, school psychologist, student assistance teams, and teachers to provide appropriate resources for referred students.
  • Act as a liaison between school officials, families, and other agencies working with students.
  • Establish a cooperative relationship with local law enforcement officers, Juvenile Court Services, Department of Human Services, and the community.
  • Establish, maintain, and update required reports and files using supporting data.
  • Submit required reports to appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
  • Model a positive image of the agency at all times.
  • Attend required regional and state trainings.
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of implemented programs throughout the community, region, and state.
