Description

A Phlebotomy Instructor is a professional who teaches and trains students in the field of phlebotomy, which involves drawing blood from patients for various medical tests, transfusions, donations, or research.

Job Duties

  • Curriculum Development: Designing and updating the curriculum to ensure it covers all necessary skills and knowledge areas.

  • Teaching: Conducting lectures and practical sessions to teach students about anatomy, blood collection techniques, safety protocols, and patient interaction.

  • Hands-on Training: Providing practical training sessions where students practice blood collection on models and sometimes real patients under supervision.

  • Assessment: Evaluating students' performance through exams, practical assessments, and continuous observation.

  • Certification Preparation: Preparing students for certification exams required to become a licensed phlebotomist.

  • Compliance: Ensuring that the training program adheres to state and federal regulations and standards.

  • Clinical Coordination: Arranging clinical placements or externships for students to gain real-world experience.

  • Mentoring: Offering guidance and support to students throughout their training.

Qualifications

  • A Phlebotomy Instructor typically needs a combination of practical experience in phlebotomy, teaching skills, and often certification in phlebotomy instruction.

  • Ability to pass a background check

  • Ability to lift up to 10lbs
