UPMC Medication Technician in Coudersport, Pennsylvania

The Medication Technician provides direct care to residents including administration of medications within scope of role.

Shift: 2PM - 10PM OR 6AM - 2PM | Weekend & Holiday rotation

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for documenting medications and medication related treatments per the physician's orders and accurately records all care provided in the residents record, Medication Administration Record (MAR) and Treatment Administration Record (TAR).

  • Administers and documents medications in accordance with the PA Department of Human Services Medication Administration Training Program , state regulations and facility policies and procedures.

  • Receives and documents medication delivery from pharmacy and ensures all medications are received and properly stored.

  • Does personal laundry for residents as needed.

  • Attends all mandatory in-service programs and completes annual training related to job activities.

  • Encourages residents' participation in activities and assists with transportation to meals, scheduled programs, etc.

  • Assists residents in the ordering, receipt and storage of their medications.

  • Assists licensed nursing staff with emergency care when requested.

  • Follows all facility and departmental policies and procedures.

  • Provides residents with clean linen and assists with bed making.

  • Accurately performs and records vital signs and weights as indicated for resident.

  • Maintains and reorders necessary supplies used by the staff and residents.

  • Assures resident safety by making regular room checks and is aware of the location of each resident.

  • Assists residents with meal set up and feeding as required.

  • Helps residents with arrangements for doctor appointments, beauty shop appointments, etc., as needed. May assist with making transportation arrangements to appointments off campus.

  • Responds to residents? requests for assistance in a timely manner.

  • Assists residents with basic activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, personal hygiene and grooming.

  • Report changes in residents' conditions to Director of Resident Care/Charge person or the doctor and documents relevant information in the resident's chart in accordance with policy.

  • Maintains resident confidentiality.

  • Provides direct resident care, following the residents? support plan and physician orders; collaborates with other providers, e.g., therapists, hospice, home care, etc.

  • Ensure accurate accounting and safekeeping of all narcotics at all times; performs change of shift narcotic count in accordance with regulations and policies.

  • High school diploma, GED diploma, or active registry status on the Pennsylvania nurse aide registry.

  • Completion of PA Department of Human Services Medication Administration Training Program to be obtained within 6 months of hire. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hireCurrent PA Department of Public Welfare Medication Administration Certification within 6 months of hire.
