UPMC Dental Hygienist Practitioner - Casual in Coudersport, Pennsylvania

The Dental Hygienist is responsible for overseeing the oral health care, treatment and referral to dentist for children in the Oral Health Program. The Dental Hygienist will work with the Project Director, Care manager/coordinator, school liaisons, Pediatricians and other office providers in scheduling care, treatment and referral of children to receive oral health care.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform dental procedures such as cleaning teeth, examining gums for signs of disease, and application of fluoride and sealants without the supervision of a dentist

  • Adheres to infection control procedures and the sterilization and care of instruments

  • Instructs children/adolescents/parents in the proper care of teeth and gums.

  • Explains procedures to be performed; collects and records patient health histories

  • Prepares and maintains dental instruments, supplies and equipment; prepares operatory for the patient visit.

  • Provides charges to appropriate staff for billing purposes based on care given.

  • Contact departments, as needed, to review various charge scenarios

  • Documentation and maintenance of accurate records for oral health patients

  • Perform all other job duties as assigned.

  • Certified by the Pennsylvania State Board of Dentistry as a Dental Hygienist.

  • Certified Public Health Dental Hygiene Practitioner (PHDHP) preferred.

  • One year of dental hygiene experience in a dental practice or clinic preferred.

  • Preferred education of an Associates degree or work experience equivalent to be certified. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Act 33 with renewal

  • Act 34 with renewal

  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
