Natives of Kodiak Science Aid II - Fisheries in Corvallis, Oregon

Please note: This position will require weekend and some holiday work as we do sampling every day.

Be appreciated for a job well done. That is exactly what it is like working for the Natives of Kodiak family of companies. Environmental Assessment Services, LLC (EAS) is a nationally known, scientific environmental characterization company based in Eastern Washington since 2005.

EAS is looking for a Biological / Fisheries Science Aid II to assist with a downstream fish passage study utilizing rotary screw traps in the Willamette River Basin Near Corvallis, OR and Eugene, OR. Positions will last up to the full year and possibly longer if contract options are exercised. There is a full-time opportunity available for the duration of the project. Housing is not provided but the pay range is $20.00-$21.00/hr plus $4.57 in health and welfare dollars!

A typical day for the Fisheries Science Aid III will consist of the following:

  • Navigating unimproved shoreline areas by foot.

  • Safely navigating moving waterways via inflatable kayak.

  • Travelling highways, single lane roads, and forest roads in various driving conditions.

  • Identifying sampling, tagging, and accurately recording relevant data for juvenile salmonids.

  • Conducting routine maintenance and support installation and retrieval of rotary screw traps.

  • Repairing nets, boats, etc.

Desired Qualifications:

  • 2 years of experience in the fisheries field preferred

  • Experience providing technical support to the production, research, operations or program administration efforts in laboratories, field, or other settings

  • Enrolled in or have graduated from a university with a focus on fish and wildlife biology

  • Previous experience installing and/or operating rotary screw traps

  • Identifying and sampling juvenile salmonids

  • Repairing equipment (mechanical experience a plus)

  • Operating kayaks on moving water

  • Experience towing trailers

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

This position will require spending most of the time outdoors during the work shift in variable weather conditions and sometimes remote locations. Fisheries Science Aids will work in streams with uneven and slippery surfaces, on or near moving water, may have to wade to certain traps, and/or use boats to gain access to a trap.
