Minimum Qualifications One year of full-time experience performing purity, germination, or special tests on seeds such as Bluegrass and Bentgrass seeds and training providing the knowledge of AOSA or SCST rules for testing seeds; OR a certificate of competency in seed testing from either AOSA or SCST. Position Duties 55% Independently performs purity seed testing exams on fescues, ryegrass, orchardgrass and other less complex species. Performs examinations including but not limited to, purity, bulk, noxious weed, crop and weed, sod quality, undesirable grass seed, other seed determination, pest and disease, soil exams and searches for other contaminants as requested by the customer. 15% Trains junior analysts as part of a team, teaching to identify seeds by indicating any morphological features that aid in seed identification. 15% Other Duties: May prepare samples by dividing, blowing, and/or screening, or by weighing and calculating final purity results if needed, as assigned by supervisor. May process seed image requests from customers using a microscope camera and associated software. May interact with Lab guests when requested to demonstrate and explain what they do during Lab tours or workshops. Helps to update the Official Lab Herbarium as well as other small herbariums held with the Lab. Assist in other areas of the Laboratory, as needed. 10% Studies and Trains to perform the initial separation of more complex seed species including, but not limited to bluegrass, bentgrass, wheatgrass, native and other difficult-to-test species while following the testing rules and procedures. 5% Maintains cleanliness of personal workstations, sample preparations areas and other areas of the laboratory to avoid possible cross contamination of samples and to maintain the professional image of the laboratory.
