Amentum Corrosion Control Mechanic I in Corpus Christi, Texas

The successful Corrosion Control Mechanic performs aircraft scheduled and unscheduled corrosion inspections and control to include washing, cleaning, corrosion detection, corrosion removal, metal treatment, and touch up painting. Assist in the preparation of the aircraft and / or components for complete repaint.

  • Performs tasks as assigned by Supervision per instructions, applicable technical data, manuals, and/or directives.

  • Makes aircraft safe for maintenance, removes and reinstalls aircraft panels, components as required.

  • Uses hand and power tools as required for corrosion prevention, treatment and touch up painting.

  • Inspect identify, remove, and treat aircraft corrosion.

  • Performs aircraft corrosion control to include aircraft washing, cleaning, corrosion detection, corrosion removal, metal treatment and touch up painting. Touch up is defined as an area no larger than one square foot, excluding aircraft leading edges.

  • Inspect aircraft exterior and interior, including gear and wheel wells for corrosion.

  • Classify and document corrosion intrusion discovered during scheduled and unscheduled corrosion inspections in accordance technical manuals.

  • Treat and repair corrosion as required using chemicals and Chemical/abrasive compounds. Performs masking on canopies, plastic, rubber parts, and exposed wiring when using chemical paint removers.

  • Restore paint integrity using airbrush, self-pressurized spray kit or brush and roller.

  • Order material to be used in the corrosion control evolution.

  • Preserves and de-preserves aircraft.

  • Assists in the preparation of the aircraft and / or components for complete repainting including the application of labels, as well as the makeup, cut out and preparation of stencils.

  • Provides technical assistance, guidance and instruction as required for training of personnel in the same or lesser grade classifications in area of responsibility. Demonstrates job procedures.

  • Ensures that all aircraft parts/components removed from an aircraft are properly documented by a valid Work Order, ensuring repairable, serviceable, or unserviceable parts are properly tagged and turned in and/or disposed of.

  • Comply with all applicable programs, including Safety, Foreign Object Damage (FOD), Hazardous Communications, Corrosion Control, and Tool Control.

  • Maintains Emergency Reclamation locker and performs duties of emergency reclamation member as directed by program technical manuals.

  • Operates portable firefighting equipment.

  • Participates in the proper maintenance and cleanliness of spaces and facilities.

  • Works harmoniously with other employees promoting teamwork and cooperation.

Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Requirements

  • Must complete the Basic Aircraft Corrosion Control Course within 90 days. Completion of Aircraft Corrosion Control course (N-701-0013), Aircraft Corrosion course (C-600-3183), Aircraft Paint/Finish Course (C-600-3182), or Aircraft Paint Touch Up and Markings Course (N-701-0014) is preferred.

  • Must be able to obtain/maintain any company/government required qualification, certification, licensing, or security clearance.

  • Must have two years general experience in aircraft corrosion control.

  • Must be knowledgeable of aircraft, aircraft ground servicing equipment including vehicles, tugs, tractors, servicing carts, test equipment, hand tools, power tools.

  • Must provide and maintain own hand tools as identified in Amentums’ minimum tool list.

  • Must be Respirator Qualified, become qualified in the use of support equipment as required. Become certified to perform hydraulic sampling.

  • Must be knowledgeable of and follow Department of Defense (DoD), Navy and OSHA safety standards. Possess knowledge of materials and safety instructions.

  • Must be familiar with normal operational safety requirements, working on and around aircraft and ground support equipment.

  • Must have working knowledge of corrosion theory, detection, treatment, and prevention.

  • Must have a working knowledge of applicable maintenance / technical manuals, basic tools, and special tools.

  • Ability to read, write, understand, and communicate the English language and to follow verbal and written instruction.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

  • Must be able to work any assigned shift or schedule.
