Guthrie Sterile Processing Tech - GCL - Office Support Services - Full Time in Corning, New York

Position Summary: The primary purpose of the Sterile Processing Technician is to collect, clean, decontaminate, disinfect and/or sterilize surgical instruments/packs, reusable medical devices and patient care equipment according to established standards and procedures. The Sterile Processing Technician understands microbiology and infection control standards. This position will also assist East Corning ‐ MOB department will medical supply distribution and ordering. Education, License & Cert: High school graduate or equivalent. Experience: Has successfully passed a nationally accredited central service exam for central service technicians; and holds and maintains CRCST or CSPDT; or provides evidence of employment as a central processing technician in a healthcare facility for a cumulative period of one year. A central processing technician who does not meet the requirements has 18 months from the date of hire to obtain the CRCST or CSPDT. Essential Functions: 1. Responsible for control of all parts of the sterilization process; decontamination, prep, pack, and sterilize. 2. Sterile storage including remediation of equipment failures and hazards. 3. Knowledge and operation of sterile processing equipment (washers, sterilizers). 4. Knowledge of different types of sterilization materials and equipment to choose the appropriate item method of sterilization for equipment or supplies. 5. Document and maintain accurate sterilization records. 6. Inspect, assemble, and test general and specialty instrumentation for proper functioning. 7. Perform simple maintenance on equipment (i.e. clean filters and drains). 8. Decontaminate, reprocess, and maintain flexible endoscopes. 9. Monitor and maintain appropriate records to remain compliant with applicable regulatory agencies, as well as reporting occurrences immediately to supervisors. 10. Report defective equipment to supervisor. Other Duties: 1. Deliver incoming medical supplies to departments and/or stock central supply room as necessary. 2. Order medical/surgical supplies for departments based on need to replenish par level. 3. Other duties as assigned
