Guthrie Licensed Practical Nurse - 2W - Full Time - (Up to a $15,000 sign on bonus) in Corning, New York

Position Summary:

Provides high quality nursing care for assigned patients in collaboration with and under the direction of a Registered Nurse, using a scientific and humanistic focus. The Corning Hospital LPN utilizes a holistic systems approach to protect and promote patient wellness and safety. LPN’s will be patient centered, promote teamwork and strive for excellence.

Experience: High ethical standards with respect to discretion and confidentiality. Ability to conduct self professionally at all times. Must be able to assist patients with bed mobility, transfers, and ambulation with assistive devices utilizing proper body mechanics at all times. Must be friendly and a team player that fosters a teamwork approach.

Licenses & Certifications

Lic Practical Nurse - NY

Essential Functions:

  • Collaborates with RN regarding patient’s Plan of Care.

  • Implements and/or administers all prescribed testing, medications, and/or protocols appropriately and in compliance with established standards, while ensuring all pertinent patient/family education has been provided.

  • Demonstrates age specific competencies as per unit requirements.

  • Assists in orientation of new personnel to the department as well as developing skills of other staff members when requested or appropriate.

  • Attends workshops, seminars and in services to enhance medical knowledge.

  • Continually reads, reviews and assesses pertinent literature related to new developments within the scope of service.

  • Responsible for the completion of all assignments scheduled during the shift without sacrificing the quality of work performed.

  • Promote teamwork and a positive work environment.

  • Demonstrates good judgment and planning when responding to requests or questions while interacting with patient’s/families and other healthcare providers.

  • Responds to assignment changes quickly.

  • Consistently shows good judgment by showing an appreciation of cost and quality.

  • Reports any changes in the patient’s condition to the appropriate personnel.

  • Evaluates and updates plan of care as indicated.

  • Refers unsolved problems and consults with the appropriate person in order to pursue problem resolution through proper chain of command.

  • Respects, at all times, the confidentiality of patient’s records, the progress, and utilizes complete discretion when discussing patient matters.

  • Displays confidence and shows respect to patients, families, physicians, and other health care workers by performing job related duties in a highly professional manner at all times.

  • Readily assists, supervises or consults with other staff members when requested or appropriate.

  • Displays positive attitude/working relationships toward all internal and external customers.

  • Demonstrates flexibility to adjust personal schedules to the fluctuating workloads and demands of the department.

  • Completes all assigned procedures during the shift and utilizes additional time to assist others in the best interests of the department.

  • Ensures work environment is safe.

  • Consistently demonstrates the ability to recognize priorities and deal with them appropriately.

  • Maintains patient records and keeps documentation current.

  • Incorporates patient teaching in plan of care and documents patient response.

  • Reports to and discusses with the departmental manager any suggestions or recommendations for improvement in department policies and procedures or operation.

  • Assumes personal responsibility and willingness for ongoing continuing education, in‐services professional development, learning new procedures, and accepting new responsibilities.

  • Willing to accept additional responsibilities and duties related to the operation of the department as permitted.

  • Demonstrates reliability when on‐call; maintains appropriate availability to hospital; reports to work per unit requirement.

  • Arrives on time at start of scheduled shift and returns promptly after breaks and lunch periods.

  • Observes hospital dress code: Wears identification badge while on duty and maintains a professional appearance at all times.

  • Consistently strives to be an effective and productive member of the department and of the organization.

  • Documents all pertinent patient care information using Standard of Care as guideline

  • Follows Standard Precautions and Infection Control.

  • Follows hospital safety guidelines.

  • Follows all hospital Policies and Procedures. Performs only those procedures allowed by hospital policy which excludes:

  • Venapuncture (special class)

  • Insertion of NG tubes

  • Administration of IV push medications

  • Verbal/Telephone orders

  • Administration of blood products

  • Participates and actively supports PI activities.

Pay range for this position is from $25.24-$37.13
